This oughta give you the Willeys! I won't, I'm keeping all these, but enjoy them anyway. Another part of my AMC train project, I've converted 5 flats so far, and have 4 more to do. Then I'll call it quits for the Lima flats. I think they look nice with the Willeys on them, former Bachmann Trackster bodies. The wheelbase matches, too! With some perseverance, I should get my AMC train finally done in 2015, the basic parts, and can add on later as I want to. Happy to be making progress finally after all these years!

AMC, those willeys remind me of the 60's. Back in the early 60's, I drove one, 4 cylinder standard transmission with overdrive. Thanks for the memories. My car this week is a Champion Life Like boxcar. I picked this up on another forum for $6.00 including shipping.

Nice COTWs so far, guys. My COTW is a newer Athearn H0 scale Pacific Fruit boxcar that I got at a train show a while back.

Great photos Jeff. The straw in the car adds to the realism for sure.

My COTW was inspired by Redwoods. I had acquired some Athearn passenger cars to create my rendition of his El Capitan transition car - was looking at how short the Athearn dome car was and had a brainstorm . This is a very simple kitbash - a dome car with the end of an observation car grafted on. I think it makes the length look much better for a dome car. The chassis was lengthened as well, using sections from both cars. I painted it in the style of the Mantua Santa Fe streamliners. I plan to add lighting later.

My latest acquisition:

A 1980s/1990s-style Amtrak "Amfleet" coach car. I mainly got this for nostalgia reasons, as I used to see these a lot at South Station in Boston as a kid (along with Amtrak F40PHs and those material-handling cars). The "Amfleet" cars are still used on Amtrak's non-Acela trains that start/end at South Station, but they have the new paint scheme on all of them. I do miss seeing Phase III a lot there (last I saw it was when they had one of their "Heritage" Genesis locomotives there last year.)
It does look neat here in this pic. Though I don't plan to run these cars on the layout much due to their length. Instead I plan to fix up the coupler problem on my TYCO Amtrak combine car (maybe use a little wire to keep the height consistent.)

Jerry, at first glance I thought you'd found a Mantua dome observation. Then I looked more closely and read your comments. Great job on the kitbash!

Same here, man. That looks shockingly like a Mantua observation coach or something like that. Pretty neat.

Great idea, Buss - I would like to do that! I saw some on ebay the other day that lit up, although for some strange reason they didn't offer a Santa Fe one. Might just try to make one.

I am double-dipping on the COTW with this one, but giving myself a pass since this will be the last car coming out of the JNXT shops in WV - finished tonight - with operations scheduled to move to Texas. Appropriately called the "Mountaineer", it started out as an undecorated Penn Line combine I picked up last November at a train show. I added window glass, paint and decals, plus a set of Kadee couplers.

That Mountaineer is one heck of a double dip, and thank you for that. I can almost smell the axle grease. Those rivets really make it happen.

Is that a stained glass panel I see? What did you use for that? My Liberty Bell trolley has a bunch of stained glass panels that I'll need to represent and I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle that part of the job yet.

Yes it is - it came printed on a sheet of thin clear plastic like you would use for windows, along with some others in a couple different sizes. Unfortunately I am unable to identify who made it - I found it in an old "grab bag" of used decals. Wasn't even a full sheet, just a scrap.

I am going to be a snob now and say "eew, later Varney" because their older metal cars are way nicer. A nice find, especially at that price, but I'll take my stamped-metal boxcars over plastic Varney any day
And JNXT, love those passenger cars. Don't think anyone's ever tried painting a Penn Line coach for Pullman before, and I wonder why, cause it sure looks good! Keep 'em coming!

It was the result of looking through my old heavyweight passenger decals and thinking, "hey I bet this would look good." Pure fantasy but it works for me!

No kidding. Don't give me wrong, the plastic ones are okay but the older ones, and older model trains in general, just feel better overall to me.
