While visiting Englishs hobby shop in Montoursville, PA on Saturday, I was poking round their shelves, when I found something interesting. Open frame motors? guy up front said it was a Kato, open frame, looks a lot like an old Rivarossi motor...so the bells started going off. Also, next to those on the shelf, a box of <vintage?> Kemtron motors, blocky open-frame type. Hmm. Well, I wound up buying one of each, at $15 not cheap, but there else are you going to find this type new? I thought I'd try out the true open-frame in an old Rivasossi engine, to see if it'd fit and bolt in. Sure looks like it would! The shaft is lone enough, can be cut to fit. The Kemtron motor, I'm not sure I've got anything that old that would use it, but what the hey, never know. Like I said, it's mint, all the brass is nice and gold-colored on the motor. So if you're looking for this type of motor, you can call them up and ask. The open-frame had a P/N of 1027 on the box, the Kemtron had no #, but they're pretty obvious as to what they are.

Jerry, I have 2 of those style motors, though they are much shorter. I originally intended them for Rivarossi, but IIRC the magnet was a little too tall for the cab. They are well made 5 pole motors.
Rivarossi followed a lot of older brass practices, so the cab mounted pancake motor was probably one of them.
