I'm hoping to get one for my youngest girl (8) next year. Our new house (closing Jan 20th) will have much more room.

I almost put together a set for one of my friend's boys...

I hate to say it but I have found that giving my kids trains does not work. They are interested but do not want them for gifts. They want to get them at shows. They only use the ones that they 'buy' (partially with my money). The ones that were gifts they seem not to want, those sit on the shelf. I originally thought I was getting the wrong ones until one of the boys bought the same one he had in worse shape, fixed it and now runs that.

Maybe they just like knowing they did something for it I do not know. Legos are a different story.

Wow ! You're raising train show kids. How did you do that?!

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Just happened. Glad they like them though. They lost interest in there own layout. They want to run on mine. Added a siding to place their trains on when not in use.
