I have had this for as long as I can remember yet I have no clue as to who made it and how old it might be.
Any best guesses ?

Yep, definitely a Mantua/Tyco car. It first appeared in the 1962 catalog and appears last in the 1965 Tyco catalog. So there you have it, I've answered both when and who made it.

Helpful hint for the Mantua tanker: It was actually Mantua, not Athearn or MDC, which established the 2-56 standard for truck screws, with cars like this one. The mounting points are identical to any Athearn blue-box car, and their trucks and screws can easily be substituted, if you intend to convert the car to kadees and nice trucks. That's what I did to my Texaco one, but my Cities Service car like yours is still waiting.
