Wow, this is a neat little railcar ! I've never seen this one until just today. Looks like a mini alligator engine! I need to do some more research on this one, as I want to know who built it.

Holy crap, there actually was a real thing that they based that little loco on that we just had a flame-war over. Was not expecting that. Very cool, reminds me of the PRR battery-electric "tractors" they used on industrial trackage over in NJ.

It looks very European, like something a Dalek would drive.

There was a flame war over this? Not on THIS forum, I take it? Yes, it look very Euro, except it has United States Army painted on it.
Here's a few more pictures of other rail-cars that I found, I like these unusual vehicles.
Jerry

Above, I see EM-1 turned Microbusss's dual end caboose into a 1:1 car. Or was that going to be the other way round?

above - Gotta love these FC-150 Jeep trucks, too!

The creativity of the railroaders is boundless.

Jerry, do you know any more about this monorail than the photo shows? That's an interesting machine. You can see in the picture that it works (somehow), but it doesn't seem like it could.
In order to balance like that, a bicycle has to be free to steer it's wheels under itself when it starts to tip. This thing has its wheels on the rail, so it must be balanced some other way.
By the way, it would not be subject to FRA regulation, since the FRA only regulates railroads of two foot gauge or more.

And that my friend is my you don't really see pictures of this thing. Very odd locomotive, though.

that monorail loco used a Gyroscope to keep it steady on the rails & on curves
that double ended vehicle looks like it was made of 2 1939 or 1940 Dodge truck fronts
Also there is a site dedicated to those Fairmount vehicles http://www.narcoa.org/
Course I wanna build a handcar someday
Would love to find that trailer

Thanks, Ben. I'd be interested to know where you found that out. It would be fun to read up on this a little more. Some of the old ideas that were tried and rejected can be fascinating even if they were not commercially successful.

Thanks, Autobus. That's quite a collection of tried and discarded technology.

One of my all-time favorite websites Check out the 4-4-0 that had NON-ROUND wheels, and the one that had far too many wheels!
