While running around Miamisburg last night going to an Ollie's store, just down the strip of stores I spotted a lighted "Hobby Shop" sign. From the distance it looked half lit & closed but I told my wife I was gonna run down to see. Found it to be open and quite a selection of things. They had two large slot car layouts. My interest came in their full line of woodland scenics and JTT, trees, grasses, etc... It's probably 100 miles from our home but we go within 10 minutes of it every other week, sometimes more often. Going to go back next trip...

Great place, Walt. The Hobby Shop of Dayton. I was one of the managers there for a while between consulting jobs. It is a family-owned business, and Randy, the owner, is a big enthusiast. He has raced R/C at the national level, and sponsors a track in the front lot where races are held every Saturday. They also hold league slot car racing weekly during the winter. Special orders do not cost extra, and he can order from a number of wholesalers, including Walthers. All the people that work there are all hobbyists of one sort or another.

IT's always nice to find an unexpected treasure like a hidden hobby shop you didn't know was there ( I LOVE Ollie's stores, too! ). And since you pass close by occasionally, it won't be a big hassle to stop in and you save a trip by not having to do it special. Do they sell vintage HO as well, or just all new stuff? Great discovery!

Hey Walt, in case you were not aware; there's an Ollie's on South High street in Columbus. It's about 1/4 mile north of 270 on the south side.

Yes, Jerry. That was an exciting find! I didn't look around as long as I wanted and there was many people in the train isle. I'll stop in next trip. My wife's brother who pastors a church in Morrow, lives less than 10 minutes from the shop.

Rob, I think it was mentioned about the Ollie's store in Columbus. I had never been to one until two weeks ago. There's also one in Newark, that is just a few minutes from our home. But thank You for the info!

The Hobby Shop in Dayton doesn't buy/sell used stuff. Walt, in that same plaza, about 200 feet away from the Hobby Shop, is an Ollie's store. Have you ever checked out Dixie Union Station in Mason, or Entertrainment Junction in West Chester? Both are an easy drive (30 minutes) from The Hobby Shop or Morrow.

Yes, we went to Ollie's last night. That's when I spotted the Hobby Shop sign... No, I have not checked out the other two shops. May have to see them sometime. The church we attend while there is in Morrow, but brother in law, Ted, the pastor lives in franklin...
