Hi,
New member to the forum but not to Mantua / Tyco HO, far from it. I grew up in Woodbury Heights NJ during the Red Box & early Brown box era. I lived on Park Avenue, and could get to the factory through the woods that was behind our house besides using the streets- which was no more than a 2 or 3 block walk. Google 412 Grandview Ave 08097 and the company you see there now is Ellenby Technologies but the bones of the original factory are still there. If this is old news, sorry about that. I have a lot of memories to share and will post them from time to time.
Cheers,
Mark

Welcome, Mark! What a cool story. Did you ever go dumpster diving behind their factory?

Yes! (until they put up a fence) But it wasn't a dumpster in the 60's, it was was an open incinerator (!) so you needed to time your approach right so the guy wouldn't catch you as he came out to reload. As I recall, they would dump a mess of stuff and then slowly feed it to burner. My brother and I put together a lot of stuff that way.

Very cool that you lived that close to their production facility. I'm sure you can regale us with some nuggets of good stories. The incinerator robbery story is funny. I never had Tyco engines as a kid, I usually bought AHM, but I had plenty of Tyco rolling stock. Cool beans...

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Unfortunately, a lot of those things are long gone . Was a long time ago and we started collecting Lionel. I have some items left but the things we got from our raids were by and large current production stuff of the time. Being kids, paper work and picture were pretty much overlooked. Oh well..
