I've been juggling the idea of using this building as an A&P store to use with my A&P lighted poles pair. This was a scene on my layout in the 1970s...
The problem I'm having is that I have this same building already, but it's the older 7-11 version. Trying to put into my mind if two buildings of the same would look bad... IF I do use this idea, the two will not be close together, and the A&P would be painted differently.
Open for your opinions here! Thank You!

walt - I think I would do it as an A&P. Too cool an idea not to! If the two buildings were side-by-side it might look a little funky, but in different locations oriented differently...with different surroundings...I think it would be fine. I see your layout as a fun display, showcasing all the great pieces you have collected over the years. Tyco and the other manufacturers 'repurposed' many structures. So you're staying true to the spirit, really.
Plus...I want to see it!

I second the opinion that as long as it's not right next to it's twin, it's fine to use it. Once you finish detailing it, it will be fine.

It's kind of a generic building, so if two retailers in the same town had stores built at about the same time by the same contractor, the similarity would be natural.
Even if the stores were right next door, it would still look plausible because they'd be two stores in the same strip mall, so to speak. The uniformity would be natural.
I don't think it would be a stumbling block to others. The question is whether it would bother you.

| Chains do this all the time. How many McDonald's use the same building? When I drive through town it is sometimes interesting to see how a building has been re-purposed. In our area there is a church and a bank that are a Verison stores. The bank looks like many other generic banks. With proper signage etc. I think it will add character not detract.

Too me, duplicates are not exactly that bad. For one thing (as tkruger said) you see a lot of buildings in town that look very similar to each other, if not identical. On top of that, if you put them close together, you could make an excuse saying that it's some cluster of stores like this place that I took from the internet.

No, microbusss. I just took it off the internet since I thought it would make a good example of duplicates.

I made a set of station-platform advertising signs a while back and one of them's for A&P; I guess it's advertising the one on your layout Two of the same building won't look bad at all as long as you make sure to dress this one up quite differently. Since you're starting from a kit, you could even shorten the building a bit in one dimension to really throw off the resemblance.

Yes, my layout is all about recreating what I had in the early to mid 1970s. I've had these A&P signs for several years... I think the building is a must. This whole mess is a tribute to Tyco, Life-like and AHM... And the pieces they supplied me with 38 years ago and beyond...

| I'd look at some pictures of actual A&P stores and go from there.

That's a good idea Lvrr325. I did use this building in the 70s so I will stick with it. I will have to do a lot of paint detail so it doesn't look EXACTLY like my 7-11... along with the A&P lighted signs, Again, 38 plus years later...

REVISED, My tracking number sent for my future A&P building showed that it has traveled around California, then said it was delivered today also in CA!!
However I believe I just received the wrong tracking number to someone elses package.. I won't get excited until about Friday if it doesn't arrive...
ORIGINAL COMMENT: I decided to buy the Ace Supermarket building tonight, to use as my A&P store.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/201230830166?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
