hi, club member sold me a HERSHEY'S 51' tank car. Says Yugoslavia beneath...
Silver ladder and platform All silver lettering on flat-black body/tank... H.E.R.X. 10101 New/Built 11-40 Left side of ladder has "GOOD BECAUSE IT'S HERSHEY'S" Right side says "HERSHEY'S"
Right side small printing says: Safety Valves 80LBS Tanx/k ? 80 LBS Heated Pipes 200 LBS Tested 8-7-57
Who made it? Thanks!
ZZzzz...
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Does the tank car look like this model...

My guess would be that it came from either a promotional grocery store train set or might have been a Model Power offering at some point.

WOO HOO! That's it, VintageHO! yeah, thanks Tony, too. Same body... Okay, Model Power.
>>>Just curious, the "New/Built 11-40" and "Tested 8-7-57" ??...Sorta premature build date with the roller bearing trucks??
I'm pro-friction-bearing/pre-rollerbearing. The car looks quite modern. The paint is also quite remarkable.
??Fantasy car or actually prototypical??
Thanks, again for the enlightning. I really like this forum!
Could you answer my two questions?
my name is John, btw. "zebrails" covers two of my favorites: zebras and, naturally railroads!

| AHM, Model Power or Mehano. They all had these molds at one point. They are called In Transit Heated Tank cars. You wouldn't want all that goodness hardening up in the tank.

They're also pretty neat models, as far as cheapo RTR cars go. Some of my favs, in fact. I have two of those Freon cars (why would you heat Freon, LOL) and a ThermIce one. I have also seen a green&yellow DuPont, but missed out buying it.
And yes, the data is pretty confusing. Nobody paid much attention in those days, I guess. I like the outlined ACI tag, too. I think these cars did have end reporting marks though, which was somewhat rarely found on models when these were made.

In my recent upgrades and updates to the AHM Resource, I have added more pics and the 50ft. In-Transit Heated Tank Car can be seen by following this link...

As luck would have it, I just picked up the Freon example last week in an ebay deal and will post some detail pics for this car soon.
My example was Roco Austria, if I remember correctly...which did surprise me as I assumed it was Yugoslovia-Mehano. Perhaps both places cranked out examples.
Look for the new detail pics in the next couple days.

Thanks Man!
And, I'm thinking about the heating up of freon.
Trivia: Molten sulfur expands when cooled.
I've seen the "molten sulfur" cars.
Perhaps freon has the same sort of properties... no?
Thanks, again, for your input.
John btw, I just went to the AHM site you posted... something caught my eye...

Doesn't that AHM lable at the top look just near an Athearn scheme?
