An anecdote which happened to me recently, that has me questioning my sanity (but that implies I ever had any to start with  ):
My desktop computer has two monitors, a little old 18" one and a newer 24" one. The smaller of the two has a problem that the power button is wearing out, so I have to really mash the button to turn it off. My father wanted to see what was wrong with it, but couldn't remember which one had the problem.
Earlier that same day I had been working on several boxcars, all 40' cars. I'd also been cataloging all my different boxcars and sorting 40' from 50' cars in the drawers I keep them in, so you can guess where my mind was.
When my father asked me which of my two monitors had the problem, I knew it was the small one, which is about 4/5 the size of the big one. I absent-mindedly replied, "the 40' monitor"... you should have seen the look I got from HIM before I realized what I'd said, and explained what that meant!
You KNOW you're hooked when HO freight cars have successfully penetrated your subconscious 
Anyone got similar stories? I'd like to hear...
