In 1956, GN painted ten box cars in a variety of logos, lettering schemes and colors. They sent these cars out on their system to obtain employee input on which one(s) were most attractive, etc. (source: GNGoat/ Great Northern Railway Historical Society online).
I saw these ten on the GNGoat website and decided to make an eleventh one- my interpretation of the concept. One of the real ones was painted "boxcar brown", but the color photos showed that color as far more of a reddish tone- (or was it the quality of the old Kodachrome film/ slides used back then????).
I used plain old Rustoleum flat brown and Microscale decals to do my version- Kadee couplers and I-M 33" metal wheels completed the refurbishing of an old Athearn BB 40 foot box car.

Not a spectacular rebuild, but it adds a little variety to my GN rolling stock inventory.

The decals came as is off a Microscale GN decal sheet, then I sprayed Dullcote on after everything settled down and dried- generally, my standard method of work.

Folk who don't do these projects, fail to realize how hard it is to get the decals straight on the shells.
Ever try a 50/50% mix of gloss/dullcoat. I tend to find the 100% dullcoat after a while can get dirty from the dirt on your hands when picking it up.
