I was wondering if anyone knows much about the Bowser-Knapp 4-8-2? Whats the difference between the Knapp and Bowser engine? I know the tender is a heavy cast bronze as I own one and the boiler is bronze too?

The biggest difference is in the drivers, side rods and valve gear. The early Knapp models did not use screws for their side rods. They used pins/studs with only the crank pin being soldered to the crank rod. They also had spoked drivers. These drivers often had problems with shorting out, therefore when Bowser took over production, they switched to the boxpoc drivers. Below are images of each type in my collection:

Otherwise, the boiler shell, chassis frame and all other castings are all the same. I actually have a few production pieces in my collection that never received final treatment and I even have the two-piece factory steam chest mold making castings. Maybe I'll post a few pictures of those.
