To any of you B&M fans or those in the NE who are familiar with the Boston & Maine:
I am trying to get things right paint-wise, before I start on a work caboose project. I believe the 1950s "McGinnis" color scheme was a black roof and the bluebird blue body, with various B&M intertwined letter colors as the livery was tweaked over the 10 years (1956-65) this style was in use. Here is an image I took off Railpictures Archives, where the roof of the caboose appears to be dark blue- or is that an artifact of the color photography of the time. Compare this:
With this:
The first roof looks black, plain enough, but the second has a blueish tinge...
What is correct?
Thanks for any help-

To my eye the second roof looks like it's painted black and, to the extent that it shines, reflecting some of the blue from the sky. The pale rust streaks especially seem to catch some sky blue.

I agree, the roof is black and the blue of the sky is giving the roof a slight blue tint...
