This week, my COTW is a We Love Oregon box car I got at a train show a couple of years ago. It's actually a pretty nice little freight car.

My COTW is a A.C. Models vinegar tank car that I restored yesterday. It was in pretty sad shape when I got with parts loose and missing a truck. I fixed it up, added a filler cap and stirrups, archbar trucks and couplers. Then I masked the reporting marks and sprayed it silver.

I bought this Bachmann Bobber Caboose off of ebay to go with my Old Time cars pulled by a Casey Jones steamer. When I received it, I put on the track and it would roll only a few inches and stop, so I put metal wheels on it and now it rolls quiet a few feet without stopping.

Ok, sticking with the multiple car COTW theme I have here 5 of the AHM Helium tank cars. I have several of the green one, not pictured, but I didn't feel like tracking it down tonight. Got the Wabash, HMAX, AMAX, UP, and SP versions pictured. I think there's a Navy version as well, I should have that ( in silver) as well. I forget if there were any other versions. Anyway, figured I'd lighten up this post.

I went to the Train Show at Clayton, NY and bought several flat cars. 3 are pictured here as my car of the week. The first is an Athern from, as near as I can determine, 1953. It is in perfect condition.

The next 2 have me stumped for a maker. They have a wooden frame covered with stamped metal. Equipped with metal wheels and sprung trucks. Both run perfectly.

| No metal weights. From prowling HO Seeker they may be a Varney Embossed Flat Car.

Dude! Lucky! That is indeed a pair of Varney embossed flatcars, and in my two favorite roadnames too! This car is not very commonly found, and I've only found the B&O one (the only one on HO Seeker). I MUST find the B&LE one to feed my obsession with getting one of every HO freight car ever painted for the B&LE

Two classic TYCO freight cars I got in the post today:

A special Christmas-themed boxcar and a TYCO 50th Anniversary boxcar! I will probably run both on some kind of Christmas-themed train during the holiday season on my layout.

Love those Tyco coffee cars Walt
Funny thing, have been looking at ebay lately for a Maxwell House car and they have been nowhere to be found. I actually got to wondering if I was nuts or something and it was some other manufacturer that did them

Hi PRR 4800,
Thanks for the info. on the flat cars. I have had the metal body minus the base and trucks with B&LE #4301 on it for a long time and never knew who made it.
Thanks for sharing.

Jerry, Both coffee cars are Tyco as you knew, the Maxwell doesn't show up on ebay all the time. I believe it is the hardest Tyco hopper to get.
The Maxwell hopper was the ONLY covered hopper I had on my layout in the 70s. I loved it ! I may still have a few pieces of it in my old junk box...
Ben, I do have the MH boxcar but have never had any desire for the MH whistle billboard....

This sweet little cordwood tender was part of a batch of unfinished scratch-built static steamers. Made of styrene and carefully split wood with brass wire rails and grabs. Must find something to run in front of it. Evan

Now the orange overspray on the reporting marks looks like rust. A nice touch!

Well done Thomas! That tank car now looks great. Maybe needs just a little weathering on the underside now!

That's a pretty neat Transformers item you've got there. Also, for some reason I really like the style of those cabooses from Tyco.
