Has this forum now started putting pop-up ads on it, or do I just have a local problem? It's causing the page to jump around like crazy, when I"m trying to scroll or post. THey're even popping up in my Message area, right above where I'm typing this now. Just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing this, or whether it's just my PC infected maybe. Doesn't seem to be doing it on other websites I go to , just this one right now. Thanks for any feedback.

I haven't seen that either. Have you done a virus scan?

You have some malware on your computer. Really you aught to be running several of the free antivirus and anti-malware programs out there all at once to keep that stuff off the system. I just had to download a new one to clean some junk out.

The only thing I can think of that is causing pop up ads is some sort of malware or virus. Trust me, I've heard quite a few similar reports online and it turned out to be malware or a virus.Plus, stuff like this makes me glad I have a Mac so I don't have to deal with this as often.

nothing here. There is a new one that says it is a Java update warning and locks up your browser so you can't get out of it and is pretty tough to get rid of with out a good malware program. Took 3 days for my friend to finally clean it out of his system.

That helped immensely, John, thanks! I had a pop-up ad Malware called Superfish, Malware took a few tries, but I think it's all gone now. Whew! My Computer crashed about a month ago, and I'm still trying to retrieve things and get my system back up and running normally. Might have accidentally downloaded it when I was re-installing other things. Oh well. I don't see the ads popping up on TycoForum now. It seemed to pick only certain websites to appear, others it would not hit. But for now, all systems (farily) normal....

Jerry,
Glad that helped.
I also use a free version of AVG that will catch things that the malewarebytes does not.
I have it scheduled to run daily.

I wish all the virus hackers would get a real hobby!

I agree. I mean come on, most people who make viruses have nothing else to do so instead of doing something like model railroading or programming a computer, they destroy people's computers therefore making people's lives worse.

First thing you do- download and install Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware software (free). Then- if you do NOT have a browser antivirus already on your system, download a robust one for free- I use Ad-Aware Antivirus (free). If you HAVE one already on your system, do not do this- the software(s) may create a conflict that you really don't want to deal with.

Malware Anti-Malware software is designed to run WITH an existing antivirus program.

You place the program on your desktop in a folder that you see every time you use the computer- (as well as in the lower right bar on your desktop, where it will also show up).

You run this software EVERY TIME you use your computer- and allow the resident updater to ensure that the program is current (don't go a week or two and then casually update- it takes just a minute of your time), then run the program. If any malware is found, it is quarantined- follow the instructions to delete it after it is locked up.

Pop-ups that you find on news websites are not malware, per se, just annoying advertisements that the website allows as part of it's operation. Those types of annoying pop-ups cannot be controlled- but they aren't malicious, either.

(As an older person, I regularly check the obits in my hometown newspaper (sounds morbid, but many people do this). What I hate is when you are looking respectfully at those obits, before you can even scroll the list, an ad pops up that you have to close. One time, it was for one of those burial-at sea cremation services! Absolutely tasteless!)

Perhaps there is software that can deal with those types of pop-up ads.

Follow my advice and you will save yourself some grief.

How do I know? Ask me about the hard drive I took from one of my computers than has a ransomware virus on it I need to remove- in order to access 5 years of digital family photos!

Good Luck!
