My COTW this week is my Tyco Heinz car again. Why? Because I recently weathered it to the point where I think it looks like a different car. Now, on the photo!

My car of the week is an old Rock Island flat or two. I believe it could be purchased with the red pipes or the culverts. Metal parts make this flat kinda heavy... I like this item and have a third one somewhere...

Only a little thought went into this scratch-built car. The doors are a bit of a conundrum. How would one open them? I'll run it with my MOW stuff anyway.

Sorry, I should have said. It was built on an MDC wood boxcar of some kind. I just noticed now the brake wheels on both ends. I got this with other stuff in a box of "here's some more stuff for your collection" from David at The Railhead.

Ironically, the Packers are the first team in the official season to play the Seahawks who had just won the Superbowl earlier this year.

Oh, kovacste - you have just begun! Now you can file off the ladders, grab irons, and stirrups and replace them with wire grabs and A-line stirrups... remove the brake gear on the end and add a Kadee brakewheel and real chain... add the fine print lettering that was left off... eventually if I do enough of this stuff I start to forget it was ever a Tyco car! But first you must ask yourself - are you collecting trains for the fun of it, or are you headed down the slippery slope to prototype-modeler-dom, where everything is superdetailed and exactly right? I ask myself that every day...

That's close to what I usually see them go for. The highest is usually around $20. Plus, I've seen my Tyco Heinz car go for around $50 boxed!

What's in the pic is a Life-Like 50" Union Pacific boxcar I bought recently, that came with Kadee metal wheels and knuckle couplers. It's also apparently the only Life-Like non-Proto Union Pacific product to have their "shield" logo!

This is a Laconia Sierra Combine. Looks quite a bit like the Roundhouse and Ulrich models, though a bit smaller than the Roundhouse. Car body and roof are metal. Floor is wood with metal platforms, etc. Looks to be a twin of the Ulrich stuff? Company business deals there? Anyway, I bought this as a prebuilt; the floor was broken and previous repairs were not aligned, but the wood floor was not too bad to duplicate.
First photo is what I bought (can't see much with the size; eBay removed the listing photos) . . .

Please, have a seat on the couch and tell me all about it. What terrifies you the most? Air bubbles? Do visions of 'silvering' haunt you in the middle of the night?

Hey, I built a car like the Sierra in the seventies. I tried to dry the truck side frames out in the oven. They melted. Great car, but it killed my appetite for craftsman kits. I just kit-bash plastic cars now. My friend called this type of kit a box of sticks. He liked them. Regards John ****************

I suffered from this fear for years. Dry transfer decals were great. I finally tried the wet transfer decals earlier this year. They come out a little bubbly, but the models still look better than they would've without decals. Now I just need to get over the fear of printing my own decals...

Man, I thought I was the only one! I've been using dry transfers as fast as I can get them, and they're great, but I'm terrified of decals for fear of messing them up. Should I go for it?

Kind of ironic, it's the exact opposite with me - because since I know nothing about putting dry transfers onto models - I am scared to use them. I don't see how they would be able to mold to the surface of a model the way decals can.

I put decals on model kits before and never thought much of it. I get really nervous when I do a large decal like the hood bird on the late 70s Trans Ams!!
