I have been looking on Ebay, and all I see are Conrail hoppers, period, with the exception of cabooses and an F7. Did Tyco or LL make anything else but hoppers???
Conrail came into existence about 1976, and was Tyco on its way out?

Based on Tony Cook's website, no.

When you think about it, hoppers seem like an unlikely piece to be owned by Conrail, although I guess PA coal may justify it. But being a Gov't run entity , you'd think they'd have flats, boxcars, etc. Why only hoppers painted blue? Weird. Maybe because L-L and Tyco had excess hoppers to use, so they put the scheme on them? But come to think of it, other than the caboose, F7, Hustler, and a steam engine, I don't recall ever seeing another Conrail train item offered.

While at my train shop job today, I did some ebay searching for Conrail rolling stock, and did find both a flat car, and box car(s), in blue and brown. The gondola's were the most common, but there are a few other cars out there, it seems. Just not very common.

Ah yes, Conrail. They used to own the tracks running through Brockton, MA until 1997 when the MBTA bought the track line. I remember seeing their freight trains, but I don't remember if any of the freight cars had the Conrail logo. If they did, I doubt the cars were blue. I remember mostly seeing Conrail GP40 and "Conrail Quality" B23-7 locomotives hauling these trains. Now the CSX does freight service through my area, and they mostly just use GP40 locomotives, but I think I still sometimes see Conrail-marked freight cars on these trains. Nowadays I don't see the freight trains as often; they're more active at night, when there are less commuter trains running.

I've seen plenty of Conrail hoppers here in WV, but the real ones were all black - I never saw a blue Conrail hopper. Probably like the blue L&N hoppers you see thousands of online and at train shows - the scheme never existed. Not that it matters though!

There were no blue hoppers. In fact, the only blue freight cars of any kind were a small handful of 50' boxcars that were among the first cars fully repainted under Conrail, the fleet of former EL reefers that were already blue (a few of which did receive Conrail canopener logos while still wearing blue), as well as one series of much newer gondolas that were purchased from some railroad that already painted them blue (I don't remember who). Some early hoppers were repainted black, but after 1978, say, they along with all other cars were painted oxide red.
Oddly enough, yes, I rarely ever see any of the older cheap stuff painted for Conrail. While I have about 20-30 Conrail cars, all of them are newer ones from MDC, Athearn, Walthers and such. Con-Cor made 50' TOFC cars in several roadnames, and the Conrail one is very easily converted into a 99% correct model of an F41 flatcar.

Conrail owned thousands of hopper cars, initially all sorts of varieties inherited from previous roads; by the end most were 100-ton rib side cars similar to the Bowser, LL (now Proto 1000) and Bachmann 3-bay cars, plus some ex-EL 70-ton cars which mostly ran in ballast service. A lot of cars went to CSX and NS in EL and RDG paint. Some of the cars they purchased used, I noticed one that had former owner's reporting mark/number stencilled on clearly as AT&SF -
AHM even offered two different steam engines painted Conrail blue, the light Pacific and the A3 0-4-0.

Hey now! I may have to stage a raid on that hopper to save the AMX cars thrown in it! LOL! You can haul off all the Democratic "We Won" signs and banners, though <snicker>

That's Life Like for you! But really, if you think about it, Tyco/Mantua did the same thing with their GP-20 #5628.

The real conrail 8164, while a GP38-2, was a low hood version. It is still in service as CSX 2761.

yeah I believe njt got some of the old jersey central gp7s, and possibly a prr gp9 or two from conrail. the newest high hoods they had were gp18s from Lehigh valley built around 1960. the gp38-2 was built from 1972 to about 1986, and southern had the only high hood ones in the usa, most of which still run on Norfolk southern.
