Having done the Auto Loader, 3-cab Tractor flat, and Piggyback flat, I decided to try the smaller Concrete pipe flat. Designed a bit differently, but might work out the same. I took it apart Monday night, and prying the pieces apart was difficult, I did break one round nipple off on one corner. Oh well. On with the show. The top platform overhangs the chassis, so I had to mark the coupler pocket drill location first before I took it apart. After getting it apart, the rest was easy the insert went in the same, glued it in, then let it dry. Drilled adn tapped the hole for 2-56, then set it aside. This morning, I reassembled the unit, and mounted the coupler pockets flush. I found two more of the Athearn type trucks, and converted those to 33 inch steel wheels and installed them with the spring as well. So far, so good. Put it on the track, and tried hooking it up to the other flats...uh oh. Too high, the coupler is. Ok, take it off, put a few shims under it,and re-install. There! Ok, so won't get away with a flush-mount Kadee pocket like on the other flats, but not unsolvable. I'll have this pipe car running around with the rest before too long.

I went to Lowe's yesterday, to see if they had any thin-wall plastic tubing that might work as replacement concrete pipe. No soap, but I did find some plastic fittings that are exactly the same outer diameter, but a bit long. Will have to be cut down to fit between the separating plastic nubs. Being darker grey, might be a bit more realistic as pipe. I'll have to see what I can precision-cut them with to look good. I bought 6 of them, at 28 cents each.
