Hi guys!
Just got back from a FANTASTIC week long road trip.
Went to the following:

The Delaware river railroad (live steam) in Phillipsburg New Jersy
The Lehigh Gorge scenic railway in Jim Thorpe P.A.
The B&O museum in Baltimore
The Hagley museum where E.I. Dupont made gun powder (Small narrow gauge)
The long wood gardens ( outdoor garden railroad not ready yet)

here are some pics

This steam engine was built in 1999 in China for this railroad using an American design

More pics to come

Actually it was built in 1989 but still, it's a pretty good looking engine. Thanks for sharing!

Cool beans, nice vacation! I also have visited the Hageley estate, some years ago with the wife. Pretty neat old narrow gauge railroad, although lean on equipment. Glad you had fun.

I hate those fake steam locos some railroads have been importing. They're not American, they're not old, and they're not right! Friggin' Chinese power will never look okay lettered "Susquehanna" or such! I don't have anything against China (except that they took away American manufacturing, but that's another topic), but would they PLEASE stop selling us locomotives?

The power reverse is on the right side, so no doubt, the engineer was, too. The post said it was built to an American design, so I don't think this design was for use in China. On the other hand (that being the left hand ) the Chinese JS Mikado the Boone and Scenic Valley bought was an off-the-shelf model from Datong Locomotive Works and has the Engineer on the left as is normal in China. I assume that the IAIS QJ's are the same way, since they were bought used from a Chinese RR.

actually shaggy is correct. I was allowed to take a pic of the inside of the cab and the throttle is on the right side. What struck me was the unusual cab design.

What you say may be true, but not many preservation societies have deep multi-million dollar pocket like the Union Pacific has for their current project. Secondly, there are fewer and fewer places in the world that have resourses and more importantly the skilled work force with the experience with steam. I read somewhere that China is phasing out all their steam in the next few years or so.

Ben old buddy

I found something to add to your must have list.

next up are pics from Jim Thorpe P.A.

They run freight at nite and this is what they use

I would love to have toured their yard especially to get a good look at the cabeese the are working on and the abandoned turntable

Next up will be the B&O museum

Good for you, Leo. Does sound like you had a great time.

I was in PA a month ago. Beautiful countryside. Great railroad stuff up there.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.
