I'm building a rather odd project soon. I was wondering if anyone could help me with those NWSL gear boxes meant for steamer repowers. I need 2 and one will be facing the other way like a pair of diesel trucks. Also, need some high gear, be able to at least 70 MPH. Not too high or low. I can't understand the numbers!

I take it you are looking at the NWSL website?

Which gearboxes are you looking at?

What type of motor?

Wheel diameter?

A high torqing diesel style motor from a-line or something. Did see a 28:1 and the wheels will be rather wide and tall. Maybe a 1" wide or so and 1 1/2" tall I'm guessing. Looked at the online store of their's and like the non-idler style. Building a very unique slot car monster truck in 1:25 scale! I want one that has a very unique suspension set up so it take a good landing!

An actual 70 mph?
Or 1/24 scale 70 mph.
If it's 70 actual mph, you are going to need a very high rpm motor.

Just starting with the basics so that we are on the same page.

70mph in 1/25 scale is 4.1 feet per second (2.79 actual mph.)

1.5 inch tall tires will need to spin 630 rpm.

Typical HO train motor is 10,000 rpm. max?? (10,000/630)
or a 15.8 reduction gear box.

I think NWSL has 18:1 gear boxes.
