Well after some pauses waiting for handrail stanchions and general procrastination for fear of screwing up what I'd accomplished so far, I put some [theoretical] finishing touches on this locomotive and enjoyed running it around a bit more. I learned something more about motoring from this model. It seemed to me that my guide bar yoke was causing the rods to bind a bit, but when I was adjusting the motor placement (hoping to reduce some gear noise), I discovered that loosening the front motor mount screw just a bit silenced the motor quite a bit and eliminated the subtle lurching that seemed to be associated with the "binding". Anyway, now it runs more smoothly and quietly. It will move fast, but I like watching these locomotives crawl along slowly if possible.
Here's a couple still photos of the "finished" (we'll see, hey?) locomotive . . .

That's such a graceful looking engine it's a pity they stopped making them so long ago. It looks like a nice, simple, durable design, too.

I have to agree with that 100%. That is a marvelous locomotive.

Well that video brought back more memories of standing trackside as a kid, watching the local switch crew at work, the cars rocking and swaying back and forth as they moved through the switches and navigated the marginal track. (And no, I am not old enough to have seen a mogul, so don't go there!)
Nice job there, on all counts!
