About a month ago, my patience waned and I popped too much money for a "basket-case" Mantua Mogul 2-6-0. I had one already (the more complete one with no paint) and I really wanted another so that I might reserve one for passenger service and one for freight service. Well, I've still got work to do; I'm waiting for a couple of parts yet, but I just had to see how it, or even "if it", ran. So, here's a short video of some of it's first "work". Probably has about 45 minutes run time in so far. It was lurching quite a bit at slow speeds to begin, but that is smoothing out. Now, after it "warms up", it will run pretty smoothly at 50% throttle and begin to crawl about 35%. I'm guessing my home made guide bar yoke has caused the rods to travel just a wee bit differently; enough so that some "binding" needs to clear yet. Then there are some random photos of the work in progress . . .
Here's the frame and motor on arrival . . .

and after some clean up and manufacturing of a guide bar yoke that actually "yoked" the guide bars . . . (Actually, this is the "first" guide bar yoke I made and you can see how the rod on this left side is not really held as it should be by the guide bars. The second yoke I made was a bit tight, but does seem to be wearing in.) /tyco/forum/uploaded/barry/20140607125933_100_4264.JPG
I'll need to go around and touch up all the paint I wore off messin' with it.

The guide bars were kinda givin' the guys in the shop fits. They get the rods all set in place and run it and the rod on the left kept getting off track, so . . . back to the machine shop to get that novice machinist to make another yoke that actually fit.

The fireman . . . (maybe?) . . .

The number plate is a 1/72 brass washer filled with JB Weld, then the edges cleaned up and the center painted mineral red.

Anyway . . . for your amusement.

Not too bad, Barry. Runs great for it's age.
