I wanna build a 4'X10' layout in a neighbor's shed. I wanna install some window units and do some "sealing" in to knock out humidity. Will that help? Florida is the worst state with humidity. Bare steel rusts over night here! When away, just gonna set the temperature to 77 or so,

Air conditioning will help, but i don't think it removes the moisture, you'll need a dehumidifier for that. How'd you talk your neighbor into letting you use his shed?

Air conditioning does remove moisture from the air. The absolute measure of humidity in the air is dew point temperature. As the air conditioner cools the air, water condenses out and runs out a drain. The air coming out is at a lower dew point temperature, but the relative humidity is still fairly high, because cooler air can hold less moisture. As the cold air from the air conditioner warms to room temperature, the relative humidity drops as well and the room is comfortably dry.
Where dampness can begin is during cool, damp weather when the room never gets hot enough to kick on the air conditioner.
A dehumidifier is just an air conditioner that puts the heat back into the room rather than exhausting it to the outside. You can have it running even in cool weather.

I love the laws of thermodynamics! AC is my first thing then a dehumidifier. Trains won't be stored there any time. Just a layout.

My personal opinion is that it's a bad idea... Too many chances for things to go wrong when you involve others. If you're paying rent/electric then it's not so bad... But a deal on the buddy system has an odor already... If it was me, the temperature/conditions would be the least of my worries...
