My wife's mother and sister returned from a trip just recently and presented me with this $2 antique mall find:
Four Athearn boxes, three Varney hoppers, one Mantua stocker, and one gon that appears to be Athearn. They all have sprung trucks except for the Mantua. (And the B&M shell, obviously!) They purchased it as "junk" but figured that for $2 it was a worthwhile investment. I agree. One of the NKP hoppers is complete and the other needs one corner step, which I can appropriate from the Pennsy one. The Pennsy boxcar is also complete. (Missing couplers don't count! They will eventually get knuckles anyway.) The scuffed paint just gives them a "used" look, in my opinion, so that's all good. The rest is potential fodder for future projects.

Nice haul for $2. I like the Pennsy. They must be 50's or early 60's vintage to have sprung trucks unless someone swapped out the originals. That Timken boxcar is interesting... I've never seen that scheme before.
