This is a 2 x 6 foot module I finished building today for Amtrak National Train Day held on May 10th. For such a small project it was a ton of work for a simple design of three tracks. Many people in the El Paso Model Train Club contributed their ideas and efforts to this piece, and that made it a particular pleasure. The Walthers Union Station was fished out of the Club boneyard, repaired by a new member, who made its platform, Rolf made the module table and wired it, I stole Chuck's idea of using "bits" of model asphalt to suggest roads and traffic (instead of creating a whole automotive roadway system). The track is vintage brass track, salvaged from someone else's layout, from decades past. The ballast was a real #$# pain. Ballast donated by Robert. Layers of glue and water dribbling all over the place, requiring extensive "rescue of the track."

| That station is pretty impressive Jeff. And those big gold D A L L A S letters make it seem pretty real. Yeah, that ballast stuff. It beat me so far. I made a mess of my layout trying to put it down, then I cleaned it up with nothing to replace it yet. I dig the figures that come with that shoe shine stand. Great scale and scene for the front of the station. I can almost hear the echos against the marble or terrazzo or what have you.

Here is a scratch built model of a well known local tavern known as the Judy Inn. It was built by a club member of the Metro East Modelers Club and now resides on the Glen Carbon Central (The Black Diamond Route)

Metalsmith1, that's a really well-done model and the tar paper roofing is about the best I've seen it modeled. It really looks like the texture of old rolled roofing.
Is it something gritty like sand paper, or is the appearance of texture a trick of coloring?

| It is a great model but unfortunately the builder passed away a few years back and I cant recall his name. The structures he built were a donation to the club and I don't think he ever became an official member.

| That was the work of one of the club members. He was retired and had the time to work on the layout but he has unfortunately also passed away now.
