Ken your coaches are diecast i think and easier to assamble (think they are later versions). mine are made from pewter and naturally a bit weak! - Erich

Those coaches look like a fun project. I don't have suggestions for the exterior color, but I know from looking at vintage photos of the interiors of old coaches that the interiors were pretty "lavish" with finely finished woods and fine lamp fixtures and such . . you may have seen similar photos Erich, but here's one and a link to a site about a company that manufactured passenger coaches in 1852 (has photo) . . . I'll be looking forward to seeing your project; maybe even as it comes along, hey? http://www.midcontinent.org/rollingstock/builders/billmeyersmall1.htm/tyco/forum/uploaded/barry/20140422164126_passenger coach interior 2.jpg

I think the coach and combine cars in question, being wooden, would have nicely finished dark wood paneling inside. Considering what can be seen through the little windows, a dark walnut or mahogany color would likely be convincing enough. Modeling things like inlays or carved molding would likely go unnoticed.
As for seats, it seems to me that I've seen a lot of maroon upholstery. Some seats are also covered with a kind of wicker or rattan that's sort of a blonde color like bamboo. The seating would likely be oriented more like the typical coach seating on trains and school buses. Typically, chairs facing inward would be found on a rear-end observation car.

Barry, The coaches were lavish for the higher paying passengers. I suspect that the common people were crowded in less lavish coaches.

Ken, The coaches I refered to in the Scratch Builders Poll are the one you have pictured.

Thanks for the instructions, now I can imagine how I'm going to paint them. The colors need not be the same, but should match the coaches. Outside I will color them in a more or less reddish brown. Think I use Boxcar Red. Hope I can post pics during work in the next time! - Erich

Yea! 3 Foot gauge! Useless point, but this way the Busss can win top poster again. Quantity over quality is a winning philosophy.

Oh hush. I think that coach is stubby enough it would look better as a narrow-gauge car...

Eric
Just remember you are working with metal here. For a good paint finish use a primer first ( I use automobile shake the can primer then LIGHTLY smooth the surface) and then use only paint designed for metal ( I use SCALECOAT 1 ) Good luck. Can't wait to see the results.
