Your computer will still work fine, you'll just need to be careful about not messing up the system with viruses, since Microsoft won't provide security updates (though it sounds like they may support security updates until 2015 after all, from what I've heard).

I'm glad that Microsoft no longer supporting XP doesn't mean you can't use this forum. It would be devastating if you stopped posting on this forum forever. (Shivers) I don't want to think about it.

dead? No.
1/3 of N. America still has Windows XP...
Remember the Windows ME or 1999-2000 threat of planes dropping from the skies? Same situation.
Windows XP has no Technical support professionally on the phone/website...
XP will be around the same as when Windows 95 stuck around when XP, NT and, Vista came into being. Windows 95 is still around. It's just not supported with help unless you got the book and operating system. Or, unless you know someone else who has it.
Windows XP will live on and work for you.

p.s. Wikipedia explains the OS's since November 1985... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Microsoft_Windows_versions
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?
