The wife and I decided to go to the flea market Yesterday. My go to guy over there had 4 tables and about 6 huge boxes of trains. There were so many trains that I decided to stop looking half way through. This is what I got for $80 bucks.

That wasn't exactly what I was asking. What's the prototype?
The body has a high-hood EMD GP-something look, but the trucks are not Blombergs as is typical EMD practice. The trucks look like something from an ALCO, but the body does not. It doesn't look like anything I'm aware of from FM, Baldwin or GE, either. If someone knows what this thing is, don't consider the question already answered.

Not trying to be funny, but it looks to me like a GP7, minus the dynamic brake, with Alco trucks.
Of course the more I look at it....hmmmmm... if that is the case then the chassis itself is different, and the lower sides of the shell have been removed.... ....so never mind, it must be some kind of Alco. The vents on the upper shell don't match any GP7 Going to have to start doing some research unless someone knows the answer.

You goofs, that's an SD9 shell stuck on a U-boat frame. Nothing too exotic. I think they were trying to make it look something like an F-M baby trainmaster or such.
Also, where the heck do you live that you can get SIX LOCOS AND A WELL CAR SET FOR $80?!?! I want in on this flea market!!

Thanks for the ID. I must say that an SD-9 on a U-boat frame is nothing I've ever seen at track side.

| I'll get more of the pictures up today of the Chesapeake and Ohio Locomotive. I have no clue what it is, I just wanted it. I have some pictures and this guys phone number if you want to try and set something up with him. He has to have at least 5-6 hundred cars left as of last sunday.

And I thought I found good bargains.
That B&O unit threw me, too. It's apparent that the dynamic brake housing has been removed and filled, and it looks like the angled ends of the hood have been rounded, so I didn't recognize it as an SD-9 shell.
What designation should it have? Maybe SDU-9?

I'd call it a U25BM - a capital rebuild performed by EMD, upgrading the existing frame with a better prime mover, and a new hood to fit.

| IMHO the B&O unit is intended to be a stand-in for an AS-16 Baldwin.

Hi GG-1 Guy,
Now this is what I call a score! I'm very happy for you.
That NS engine is a real beauty. Did someone paint the fuel tank on it, or is that unpainted metal?
Thanks for sharing your finds with us.

| Thanks MyTyco, I got lucky. On the NS engine that's metal, the tank is a plastic piece that goes over it like on the ones below, it is still in the parts package. Had I known the the C&O was not an original I would not have gotten it.

Must be a different part of Virginia from where I'm at (northern). Unless it's the Virginia Bazaar at exit 110 off I-95 above Richmond, only really big Flea I know of, well there IS one big outdoor one at exit 64 below Richmond at an old Drive-in movie location, I think open every Saturday/Sunday in season. Those are the two biggest I know of around Virginia, oops, ok, one more up near Winchester, VA on Rt 340, another big outdoor Flea in seasonal weather. So that's 3 I know of. Never seen anyone with 600 trains for sale, though. Good scores!
