Cool scene. I especially like the attention to detail in the layout. Keep up the good work!

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

That is a cool scene Jeff. That would be a way to do a circus layout without all the circus tent and stuff . . . focus on the circus stock yards.

Thank you for the kind feed back. The Forum is my "guilty pleasure." Guess I should get out more.
To give credit where due, the stockyard scene was built by the late "Doc" Harrison, and long time member of the El Paso Model RR Club, and probably dates to the early 1990's. Doc was a life long veterinarian, large animal.

In Texas? A large animal vet? Of course he was; everything's bigger in Texas!

Yep, worst of all West Texas. "General Sherman reported of Ft. Bliss: if I owned Hell and El Paso, I'd rent out El Paso and live in Hell."
Today's weather: giant dust storms. Have to cover layout with plastic sheets. Club layout suffers from a chronic layer of dust. Rivers in the desert mostly resemble desert arroyos.
We make the best of it: Amtrak style chocolate chop cookies and milk. I will make up a batch of Harvey House cookies and post them to Loose Ends in the future. Last batch I tried looked, and tasted, like hockey pucks.

Jeff, I think Johnny Cash described it well in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLDJcK6Fn84&feature=kp

This is the Big Bend Country, as you know, it is not quite this green near El Paso.
Regards, John ************
An old cowpoke arrived in hell and was assigned a room. When the devil stopped by to check on him he had removed his chaps and was relaxing. This irritated the Devil so he turned up the room heat. Old Scratch went back to check on the old wrangler, and found him in his long Johns in a fine mood. Lucifer was pissed and turned off the room heat. When Lucifer returned, there were Icicles hanging from the room's ceiling, but the old Man was setting on his stone bed, shivering, but happy as a pig in mud. The Devil looked at the old Texan and retorted " nothing seems to rile you." The old Buckaroo looked up at Belzabar and replied " Just look at those icicles, The Dallas Cowboys have won the Superbowl" !!

PS: How did you know I was a closet Johnny Cash fan? I got lots of his old vinyl. Mom liked him too. And June Carter was pretty awesome in her own right.
