A wonderful train museum in Kempton Pennsylvania.
I have been there many times and enjoy each visit.
Here are a few of my photos from that museum.
They also have a wonderful HO scale layout in that baggage car.

The Wanamaker, Kempton & Southern... it never occurred to me that's what your screen name refers to. Rode it with a friend in '89. We took a trip to ride behind Pacific #425 on what was then the Blue Mountain & Reading, found out about WK&S, and rode that afterwards. It was a short ride, but a fun one in an open gondola with their 0-6-0 saddle tanker puffing and spitting in our faces. Do they still have her?

They currently use diesel engines to operate their trains Nelson.
The steam engine ran last year but only for a special anniversary event.
They must bring her up to FRA standards to safely continue her operations.
There is a huge HO layout owned by the Schuykill and Lehigh Model Railroad Club.

You're right about the lack of publicity. I go out to Allentown all the time to visit family and the Allentown Fairgrounds and Merchant Square for train show and I never heard of it. I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the info.

Now THIS ! is a good looking layout. The ridges and valleys are mostly missing but I know they are there. Looking at this layout, I am waiting for a pair of 2-8-0 camelbacks to come around a bend, or building corner, dragging a string of coal laden hoppers somewhere. The Alco RS's are ok, the road names need some back dating, like 1147.

Will try to go there tomorrow. Weather looks good for the entire Sunday.
It is a nice place to visit for the day for anyone within a three hour drive.
I did make it to the site Sunday May 25 and took an assortment of photos.
Nice area to spend the weekend with amusement park and outlet stores and other attractions nearby.

Kempton to Wanamaker and the HO layout.
Wks, I like going through the photos of the railroad and the club layout there. Of interest is the Kempton station and the good condition it is in . It is nice to see where the LNE Westinghouse large center cab went. That and the LNE composite gondola I have seen in old LNE photos of fan trips full of people.
* I did get out with my son to Ashley PA to see a part of the Ashley plain, and the rubble of Hubber Breaker.
* I am thinking to go out to Laury Station and see what I can find there. From what I can see of photos from there you can get all the way around the town on the old Lehigh Valley right of way, and see the ruins of what is left. I can't do it until the contractor is done with the work on my house, at least the attic work.

Wow, that's a railroad that's like what we all wish to model but in 1:1 scale. Everything looks clean, cared for and charming! I'll have to head out there for a ride.
Do they move freight? Do they have an engine house for their steamer?

They do not have freight service since they are landlocked and only own four miles of track.
They currently operate passenger service on nearly three miles of track.
End of track east of Wanamakers.
More bucolic scenes for your enjoyment.
Scenic section near Wanamakers.
Rustic setting away from turmoil.
Leave your worries behind and enjoy the gentle curves.
No traffic to worry about.
Fishing and cycling is the norm here in paradise.
Engine house currently stores diesel equipment.
Steam engines stored outside next to main line.

It was originally a branch line which connected Reading and Slatington.
It has been shortened to Wanamakers and North Albany since 1972.
The tourist railroad operates on three miles of track.
From Kempton northbound to Wanamakers is in service.
One additional mile of track is currently not used.
From Kempton southbound to North Albany is out of service.
I have photos of the two steam engines that operated there in 2002.
I did my best to make them presentable since these are prints.
Saddle tank engine number 2 built in 1920 by the HK Porter Company.
Saddle tank engine number 65 built in 1930 by the HK Porter Company.
Both engines shown.
Engine number 2 entering Kempton.
Engine number 65 just south of Wanamakers.
Engine number 2 north of Kempton.
Number 65 heading south.
Whitcomb diesel engine number 602 built in 1944.

This is my favorite museum to visit. My primary pleasure is the long but pleasant walk passing by country scenery before I reach the museum. It seems like heaven to me. The long walk is well worth the effort.
Although when I think of those long walks I question my sanity.
But I enjoyed them very much. What memories.

Wow. Never thought I would put Allentown on my bucket list. Now it is. I want to ride the train, ride a bike, and
swim in the pond. It is swimmable, isn't it?

There is boating activities at Leaser Lake but no swimming allowed as far as I know. More photos.

| You have a picture of Fuhrman's Grove in there. That was my grandfathers property and where my father was raised. During my grandfathers ownership he allowed the train to stop there and people would picnic. When sold I believe he required the buyer to keep allowing the railroad to do that. It has changed ownership a couple of times over the past decades and I know one owner no longer allowed it. Not sure of the status of that today. It's been a couple of years since I've been there. I take the younger ones in our family to Kempton to show them some of their heritage, the railroad makes it easy to get kids to go and pay attention.

Unfortunately Furhmans Grove was damaged by a severe wind storm.
The storm hit that area back in May 2011.
It will take some time to restore that section by the track area.
On a happier note here are some videos I shot back in October 2012.
Farmland and woods all along this beautiful area.

More of my videos from a few years ago.
One day trip with hikes from Kutztown to Kempton which total 22 miles long.
Additional hikes along paths near tracks total 6 miles long.
Total for the day was 28 miles. Very tiring. Not getting younger.
