We were buried with another horrible snow storm today and a miracle occurred - they called off work. So I finished the two palace cars I've had in the roundhouse for a couple years, finished the two Branchline box car kits....and put a loading ramp on my stockyard pen so the cows don't have to take a running leap to make it into the stock car And put another coat of paint on my F7 warbonnet project. Then trolled ebay for more projects Will post pics of the stuff later.

I would if it wasn't dark and cold outside 0 degrees tonight and then warming up to 40 degrees tomorrow. I don't want to think about any more you keep it out west!

Here are the Palace Cars I got years ago at a train show, missing trucks and glass. Were also painted a horrible flat gray in someone's attempt to make MOW cars. with some of the windows plated over. The bodies still show scratches - hard to remove from wood-paneled surfaces - but with a fresh coat of Pullman Green, some new decals and a set of Athearn trucks, I think they look respectable again.

Two Branchline box car kits I won at a train show raffle last year. These kits are DETAILED. Was definitely a love/hate thing - I like the look but it's just too much. Every grab bar, every ladder, ever EVERYTHING had to be applied. All I can say is thank goodness dullcote hides most of the glue marks Not exactly a BB kit

And lastly, I cobbled together a ramp for my stockyard. The gap between the stock car and the edge of the platform, especially on a curve, was pretty glaring even at the 3' distance. Doesn't look bad when in loading position - I still need to paint the wire holders.

I've been to Arizona. I remember it well: the Grand Canyon, axle-deep snow in all the parking lots, poor visibility, and no end in sight.
Of course, the lower elevations were warmer.
More on the topic, though, the models on this thread look great. Nice job of sprucing up the old Pullman cars, building the craftsman kits without losing your sanity, and fixing up the cattle pens.

| Nice Jerry. I like seeing your work. Regarding the stock pen on the curve; that's something I've been wondering about. My layout is small enough that one of the nicest spots for a small station might be on a curve. Do you know of any prototype railroad buildings built on a curve?

The stock pens in Chama NM are on a curve on one leg of a wye:

Not far from there, in Antonito CO sits an abandoned passenger station that fronts on a straight mainline track and a curved leg of the wye in which the station house sits:

I don't have a digital picture of it, but if I remember right, the depot for the town of Armenia Ecuador sits on a horseshoe curve. Since most boarding in the Americas is from a platform at about ground level, it's feasible to put a station platform on a curve while the building is a conventional rectangle.
I have seen pictures of a real oddity. It was a freight house that was just plain round with a circle of track around it leading to the dock doors. I cannot remember where it was. Too bad, too. If I could, there would probably be a photo on the web someplace.
Mostly, there's a prototype for almost anything.

Barry,
Here's another example. Note the loading platforms and offices along two curving tracks, and at the entrance of a tunnel no less. This is the western end of the now abandoned bore on the DL&W at Manunka Chunk in western NJ circa 1900. There's more action here than on many small model pikes.

Great stuff guys on the curved locations for stockyards and depots. I have always been a little bothered that I had to stick my passenger depot so close to a tunnel - feeling better about it now!

We had rain here on the west coast all weekend. Definetly slowed things down a but for us. We should be in the low 80' s by the weekend so looking forward to that:)

I've looked at that photo many times and always concentrated on everything near the tunnel, but for the first time noticed the turntable pit behind what must be a small engine house. Looks like you have some catching up to do. ;)

I believe it was in Brooklyn or somewhere close to that. Not only that, the real thing was accesible only by carfloat, and had one of those MDC-Roundhouse boxcabs to switch it (the 1:1 scale version, that is). I found a website for it the other day but lost the link

I've seen pictures of those. I also have Trainz Simulator which has stations and terminals in British routes that have curved stations.
