Starting off this week's "official" LOTW, I'm posting one of my favorite Tyco engines, the GG1. While I haven't operated any of mine yet to any extent, I do love these Loewy-designed units.

My LOTW would be the Athearn blue box Baldwin S-12 in Great Northern Empire Builder livery from 1974. Before I show you my pictures of it, I'm going to tell you the story of when I got it. Last year at a train show near the Canadian border, I found that engine. I thought it was neat and I got it for $20. When I put it on the tracks, it ran very choppy and slow. I cleaned it a bit and nothing changed. I then took off the chassis and found that one of the flywheels was spinning freely and it was not supposed to. A couple of months later, I brought it to my local model train shop and repair center or whatever and they fixed it free of charge. All they had to do was glue the flywheel into where it was supposed to be and widen the plastic a little bit. When I put it on the tracks, it ran like a charm and it's been like that ever since.

Kovacste000 - love the switcher my LOTW is the same exact GN S12... found mine for $8 at a local shop, runs fine, but it was absolutely filthy. After a thorough disassembly and scrubbing, I decided to try superdetailing it to match a picture I found. So far so good, but it's currently sitting in bits on the workbench while I try to figure out how to install this window glazing set I found for it. One of my favorite athearns!

Here's a LOTW that Chops might appreciate
Athearn F7A/B pair I painted in PC "colors". The A unit is a dummy and holds a battery powered LED headlight, the B is a NWSL remotor.

My LOTW is a rare and unknown (to me) manufacturer 2-6-0 all diecast boiler, shell & tender steam locomotive with a brass chassis. I say rare bc I have seen hundreds, if not thousands of HO locomotives pass through my door and this is the first one like this ever...

Well Sean that is a odd ball loco. It is odd that the drivers have no counter weights. Have you compared it to a roundhouse 0-6-0. The cab looks a little like theirs. It is had to guess from a photo. ** My loco is a 1957-1959 Rivarossi Baldwin built 2-8-0. Of a type made for export. frank

Nice example of the Rivarossi Consolidation, Frank. They were quite spare looking.
Sean, that is an interesting Mogul. If you haven't seen one, then it must be rare. Judging by the exaggerated tender trucks, it's an early one. Do you have any pictures of the motor with the boiler removed?

Same with me! But the tender trucks and the wheels on the locomotive look odd though. That is to be expected since it's an older locomotive.

That would fit in the oddball diesel thread in Railroadania cause that thing looks odd but cool.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."
