Hello, I have a few older Athearn "blue box" locos that I have added Tsunami Sound/DCC into. I have noticed that they dont run as well as some newer Atlas B30-7's that I converted to Tsunami DCC. I have replaced the wheels to the newer polished style, and the drive train is fine. But the motor's have more of a "hickup" to them, even to the point to where the decoders act alittle funky. Im looking for a cheap but quality replacement for these units and am curious if anyone has had the same issue as I have. One idea I have had so far is converting them to the newer RTR Athearn drive train/motor format. Any other ideas? Thanks!

A-Line makes motors and parts for re-powering. Also, talk to Eldon at Micro Loco Motion either via website or look up on eBay.

Another great source is NWSL. I have repowered a handful of my Athearn BB locos with their repower kit. It includes a can motor and parts to connect it to the Athearn power trucks. The differrence in power and smoothness is amazing. I see that unfortunately the price on these kits just increased $10, to $49 - but in selected cases I think it's worth it.
