I had a little package show up in the mail yesterday. Not entirely sure where it came from yet, although I have my hunches.

This is a late 70's Ideal TCR slot-less race truck. It has a large gear on the back end that selects which of the rear wheels is powered (only one at a time). When the direction of the track current is reversed the opposite wheel is powered. This is apparently how it steers from lane to lane. Neat concept, although I can't say how well it works just yet...

From my recollection, it worked pretty well! And the jam car would hug an inside curve pretty well too.

Good to know! I'll have to get my hands on some slotless track and try her out.

The vehicle does have to have some momentum to make the lane change or it will get stranded in the middle of the track, so beware of that. Also, I don't think the regular vehicle (as opposed to the jam car) will go around the inside of a curve. So when I say it worked pretty well, that's relative to whether or not you have realistic expectations of the performance of a toy.
