CSX in former Conrail territory has some kind of heater deal in the switches, it doesn't burn, but I touched one once to see how hot it was and darn near burned my hand.

Chicago is a HUGE rail hub, I think just about every Amtrak train in the US begins or ends in Chicago. Plus all the Chicago commuter trains, not to mention freight...lots of switches

IIRC the busiest part of Amtrak is the Northeast Corridor.
