A Friend of mine decided to move in with his daughter several months back. I acquired a large part of his collection before he left for California. I am getting ready to retire later this year, so I have been trying to organize and pack my collection. I will post his collection as I pack for the move.
SORRY GUYS. just don't have time to sort what I want and then do deals. I am just sorting into groups, taking pictures and packing for now.

That is a Toy Story car with pictures of Rex the dinosaur.

The Cars are packed, and will not be unpacked for several months. I hope to thin my collection after retirement, but just packing and getting ready to move has priority now. The center 50 ft. box cars are Christmas cars. The left bottom 40 ft. box cars are state cares. If you are using Windows, you could right click on the image and paste it in MSPaint and zoom in. I took these images with my phone, I will try to use a better camera on the rest of the photos.

The pizza cutter is a wheel. Most old Rivarossi cars have 8 wheels with pizza cutter flanges. The wheel is still ahead.

Well he has 40 cabooses that would be 10% oh his freight card. Most of us have about the same ratio.

I plan on retiring and building a railroad set in the WWII era. I hope to move and start selling off part of my collection in about 6-9 months, I will do my best to offer the members here fist pick for sell or trade of this and my other trains that I have acquired and consider surplus. I will try to review this thread and PM the members who have expressed interest when it is time to sell. I thought that posting would be a neat thing to do, but I fear that it ended up being kind of tease.
The FT-A is cool, I really like the EMC FT engines. I have several sets including a old Cary/Athearn Set.

Yep, that's Rivarossi. I've seen the retooled RP25 versions of the Hiawatha, but never the Blue Goose.
It's actually their Dreyfuss Hudson boiler with a different nose/pilot casting, skirting and NYC tender. Not perfect, but close enough.

I addition to this stuff I have 75 pieces of new HO code 100 flex track ans 50 pieces of cork roadbed. There is a Walthers 2 track bridge and a box of tools and supplies.

John - metal wheelsets sealed on cards do not linger long here, although I think I have almost completed my conversion to 100% metal wheels on everything...with one or two exceptions.
Always suff from train shows to switch over though. I think I might be a little OCD on that.

Goood Day! Help this old man, what is OCD. I think IHTMS [I have too much stuff]. I was glad to get the metal wheels and the flex track. I was in Tulsa and managed to pick up 20 #6 switches [50% off] a few months back. All this will help get my retirement layout a good kick start.
I am overwhelmed with this move. I have just finished packing Bud's stuff, I have the club's old stuff, and soon I will try to organize my stuff. If it is true that the one who dies with the most stuff wins, then I must be in second or third place.

If OCD = Hoarding, that seems to be a common malady among model railroaders. When I grip about my wife's stuff, she is quick to remind me of my trains. I just shut up now! I really prefer the term collecting.

Actually I am at the point where I am fine tuning the collection, selling off rolling stock that doesn't fit in with the Master Plan (so I can acquire more 'proper' pieces of course). For some reason I find it difficult to part with any locomotives though. Probably OCD on that too

Well It appears that I am the last one standing here in this part of West Texas. I am the last member of the TCMRE Club. Everyone has either moved away or is in a better place. We stored our club layout and Model Stuff about 14 years ago, and about 10 years ago it was moved to my house. I plan on inventorying the stuff and packing it for the move.
This endeavor reminds me of my Friends, and all the good times and fun we had building the layout and running trains. I miss them.

I am even surprised. I purchased Bud's collection with just a quick look. My friend was supposed to take some of the collection but I lost him to cancer early this year. A lot of Bud's stuff was in boxes, so the inventory and packing was my first look at most of it. It filled 14 file boxes
The train club stuff has been in storage for almost 10 years now. I really had mixed feelings to pack and inventory that stuff. Most of the cars and engines were active and in first class shape when stored. There are a lot of odds and ends still to inventory and pack from this stuff.
My personal collection is in about 12 more file boxes some of it I have not seen in several years. I will sell about 75% for supplemental retirement funds, and hope it gets a good home and put to use. I will move and then try to sell in about 6 months. It needs to be packed better, and I decided to inventory as I packed.
This old man's advice is decide what your model railroad goals are and pick and choose wisely. Buy what you need and skip buying or sell/give away what does not meet your goals. At this point in my life I do not own all this stuff, it owns me.
My friend with cancer left a very large valuable collection, and his wife will have the burden of selling his collection. I do not want to leave that to my family.
Do not get me wrong, I love trains and my fellow hobbyist, but I think, for me, Less may be better than more.

Good advice! I have just recently begun to look at my collection in light of certain goals and personal interests. When I started back into the hobby I would by anything and everything. Got a lot of neat stuff but it got to the point where things did not work. A train of coal hoppers from every corner of the US may be cool to look at and interesting...but in my train world, I'm not buying into the scene. I also set a 500 piece limit for everything - locomotives and rolling stock combined. I know it doesn't sound like much of a limit, but I think a lot of folks here know it really is. And it allows me to have a good collection, yet tuned more to my own railroad interests.
