hey guys,

im looking at selling my john wilkes loco and coach set. the loco runs like a dream, except for the headlight, which we cant get to as the nose has been glued to the shell. the coaches have interiors and ive bought lights and seated people to go inside, but havent fitted them yet. the loco has the box, but the coaches dont.

im likely going to sell to a friend, and i want to be fair to us both. i was thinking $600 - $650NZD [$494- $535USD] but not sure if thats fair or not. i have $300USD in the coaches, but nothing in the loco as it was a gift.

it will be sold on the condition i have first option to buy it back, and i get to borrow it whenever, both conditions i know he will be fine with. im only selling as desperate for cash and its about my most valuable piece.

any advice you can give would be appreciated.

thanks

sunhuntin - I am far from an expert on the market value of model trains, especially this particular set. But based on the little I have seen lately on ebay and that it seems to be pretty hard to come by, your price sounds fair to me. It's a beautiful set, and to a modeler as myself the lack of boxes and the issue with the nose are not significant.

I think that's a reasonable price for the whole set based on the going rate.

thanks, guys. i put the offer to my friend, but he cant afford it, sadly. he has two teens and our school year is starting, so he has two lots of fees, books etc. maybe in a few weeks, i will ask him again. another friend has hired me to weed and tidy his gardens, so thats a bit less pressure.
