Interesting old truck, what is the back story? Who made it? Generally, I hate trucks because they murdered the railroad, but I have to admit, this is a pretty nifty model.

That's true, Chops124 BUT every major trucking industries turned down the Highway Improvement Bill FLAT! So apparently its cheaper to Keep On Trucking...By Rail Which means more Piggy-Backs & containers on the railroads!

Hi Jeff,
They were made by Ulrich. They were still being produced up until approx 10 years ago. This one dates from about 1950-1960. I buy them when I can as the prices of them have sky rocketed. It is easy for a truck and trailer to fetch $50+ if it is in good condition. This one was a steal for the price I got it.
I have a few more pictures of more that I have posted here:

I kind of like them and yes, they played a huge role in the demise of the railroad, they were also an integral part of it in the 1940's - 60's which is the era I collect and will eventually model when I do have a layout.
