I don't suppose there's anybody on this planet or the next three over that doesn't know, if the news media has had its way, that the Midwest had an outbreak of tornadoes yesterday, but I would guess that few realize that one tornado in particular retraced the ROW of Santa Fe's abandoned Pekin district (1983)

The storm started in Pekin, IL, moved on to Morton, then Washington, Roanoke, Minonk, and finally leaving via Long Point, the first station on the Pekin District West of Ancona, IL, where the line originated. I worked the Pekin District frequently during my career, and weathered several bad storms in that time, but nothing of the magnitude of yesterday's intensity. I even considered modeling the Pekin District in various eras over the, most recently as an early 20th century railroad.

I hope everybody on this forum is OK, and suffered little.
