Hey everyone, I think roster shots are very cool and I wanted to post mine for feedback, as well as give others a chance to post their own. What is a roster shot? A photo of locomotive(s) on your railroad, posed for public display :] Unfortunately my background at this point is my workbench as I don't have the benefit of a layout at this point -_-

From right: DD40ECO, SD45T-2, SD40-2, U36C-U, SD45M, GP40X, GP39ECO, SW1500. Not pictured: F45 (paying back horsepower hours on a friend's layout.)

Good idea JB I'll have to see about getting mine all in one place to shoot. GREAT looking roster! Nice mix of weathering too. Can you explain more about the DD40ECO?

Thanks Jerry, they will all have some amount of weathering, when I get around to it that is...
The DD40ECO in HO Scale: A dual motor Athearn DD40, ex PRR. Stripped, painted and decaled it. DCC tsunami sound on one motor and motor control decoder for the other. Has orange strobes so it can be used as a yard switcher, the guys love it. Pulls like nothing else I have.
 (reposted from LOTW)
In my fictional universe I wanted to have a DD40 but since I model the 1990's I had to come up with a good story... well it's an extension of the gen set concept. By having two emd 710 prime movers installed it can shut down one to save fuel when not pulling a heavy load. DD40 re engined with emd 710 engines and advanced computer control = DD40ECO

Love the background story - it works for me As Ben would say I is jealous and envious of your DD40 I've been looking for an Athearn DD40 lately, they seem to transform into solid gold once they hit ebay, but I'll stumble over the right one eventually.

Great SPSF roster, I love the concept and your modeling is superb.
Here is my Redwoods and Pacific roster as it stands today.

In order from the front: 2-8-0 #11, 2-8-0 #12, 2-8-0 #24, 2-8-2 #31, 4-4-0 #42 and 0-4-0T #9.
As you can see several are still a work in progress and need a few more details and decals.

I know the ICC didn't think the merger was good for interstate commerce, but looking at that row of SPSF engines, you'd have to say the aesthetics were on the other side of the question.
I like the Redwoods and Pacific roster, too. I have a soft spot in my head for 2-8-0's, though I only have one that works at all well on my layout. It's good to see 3 in a row.
Here are some roster shots from the Tabor and Waldo Engine facility: Here are the two big sixes that normally work the yard and peddler freights, three shifters that take turns in the yard, and two prairies, one of which pulls the tank car train and the other that usually pulls the passenger train. They all share essentially the same Mantua mechanism and it's small but it's a trooper.
Here are the big mainline steam engines that most regularly run on the railroad. The 2-8-0 switches off with a couple of Heislers in pulling the coal train. The 2-8-2 pulls the larger of two manifest freights with the 4-6-4 pulling the smaller one.
Here's the Rivarossi roster. The two Heislers switch off with the Bowser 2-8-0 in pulling the coal train. The 0-8-0's occasionally relieve the Mantua 2-8-2 on the big manifest freight. The docksides occasionally are used in the yard, and around Christmas, they circle a miniature Christmas tree on a 6" radius circle. Here's the infernal combustion roster. These mainly run on special occasions (when I have a whim to run them).

Thomas: Nice looking line up... I love the used-but-not-abused look of those steamers. Is that a Model Power tender drive engine I see?
scsshaggy: Great looking engines and the scenery really fits with those steamers. I'm jealous of your box cabs and I've been wanting to pick one up just for fun. How do they run?

Thanks, that's the look I'm going for. And yes, #12 is a funky old Model Power tender drive. It runs marginal in DC, but it's a royal pain with DCC. The issue is the poor electrical pickup. I'm tempted to try a keep-alive decoder from TCS. If that doesn't work, it will be assigned to shadow box duty

You guys have some cool stuff! I haven't spent nearly enough time customizing trains (let alone developing my own roadname ) to be able to contribute anything, but these pictures are great to see. Hopefully there are still more to come.

They're noisy. The trucks don't really move on the roll axis, so if one is on an insulated frog, the same side of the other one can be in the air and cause a stall. On the other hand, they pull respectably well, run nice and slow and are hard to derail. If I could get them to run at the same speed, double heading would solve the stalling problem.
I know this doesn't sound encouraging, but I keep tinkering because some of my best locomotives were disappointing in the past but I eventually figured out how to make them work well for me.

How about doing a roster shot of some of your roster? Some of them are more fun to look at than none of them.

Thanks for the kind words. The heislers have taken on additional meaning to me since I joined the Silver Creek and Stephenson RR (http://www.thefreeportshow.com/scs.htm). Being on the crew of one makes it more personal. I'm the one firing in this video: http://youtu.be/vkL4ojKO67M

Here is a pic of about half my Amtrak MoW fleet.... I made these pictured. Yes, that is an IHC Double motor GG1. Missing are the Athearn F7A & F7B, Athearn GP35, 2 Athearn SW7's... and about 5-6 other factory ones, made by Atlas, Athearn, AHM.

These Amtrak MoW I recently completed and now added to my MoW Roster.... All Athearn- GP-35 #290, F7A #229 (The F7 B Unit is in process of being completed), 2- SW-7's #202 & #212.

I'm sure our rosters are a lot like yours. I showed my Redwoods and Pacific roster, but I also have an SP roster, a WP roster, an NWP roster and an ATSF roster. And I have even started a D&H roster (one engine so far).

Ray I am loving these shots. My favorite is the popsicle scheme you have like SP had on the TE70's.
I notice a strange lack of electric engines on the modern Pacific Electric however...

Great displays!!
JNXT- Where did you get those wooden display shelves? I need a few of those! Of course, need to find space to hang them...
I have been building a roster for the New Mexico Northern. It is entirely freelanced and has been growing for several years. Unfortunately the layout is "under construction" so photos were taken on the kitchen island.
This is the limit of the GE locos at the moment. #2399 is an old Bachmann BQ23-7 shell dropped onto a B23-7 chassis. #4075 is a Bachmann Dash8-40CW.
This is the Baldwin collection. #12 is an old Athearn S-12. #1530, 1531, and 1532 are and ABA set of Model Power locos.
This is the FM collection. #2466 is an old Athearn Trainmaster. #1644 and 1648 are Bachmann H16-44s. #421 is my kitbashed H4-33.
The Alco contingent. #201 and 201b are Model Power FA1/2s. #4300 is an IHC C430. #4240 is an AHM C424. #6300 is a kitbashed C630.
The next 4 photos are EMD locos
 #34 and 35 are a cow-calf from Athearn. #700(GP7), 900(GP9), and 990(GP9) are kitbashed AHM GP18s.
 #950 is a Walthers GP9M. #951 is a Cox GP9M shell on an AHM GP18 chassis. #1800 and 1801 are both AHM GP18s.
#2013 is a late model Mantua GP20. #3047 is an old Bachmann GP30 shell on a Bachmann plus GP35 chassis. #2873 is a kitbashed GP28.
#4100 is an AHM SD40-2. #4501 is an old Athearn FP45 in passenger colors.

hypoponera - thanks, I built those shelves myself. Glad the pictures weren't to sharp because they are not carpentry masterpieces, but they serve the purpose. I need to build more but I'm running out of wall space
You have an IMPRESSIVE roster. Really like the GE's, especially the bq23-7. Trying to nab one of those myself. You'll have to give some background on the H4-33 too, interesting!

Hey Jerry,
Those may not be "master built", but they look good to me! I am certainly no carpenter. But they sure look to do the job well. Who made the UP turbine?
The H4-33 can be found here: http://tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10623
The BQ was a hard find I'm afraid. But I found that one on ebay for next to nothing a few years ago. I did a rebuild on it here: http://tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=621

That turbine is an Athearn RTR - was my first (and last!) major new locomotive purchase shortly after I got back into the hobby. Excellent runner and puller, and detailed as well as any Genesis. BUT....dang was that a lot of money and I learned my lesson on that I'm a sucker for that UP big power though
Thanks for the links on your builds - I'm going to do a bq23-7 sooner or later, and your critter has got me thinking

If so, that is a great job... It is tough to get those straight and correctly spaced.

That's truly an awe inspiring collection.
Imagine the faces you'd get with a matched set of 10 silver streaks pulling a train...

Interesting thread.

My photo but not my equipment nor layout. Photo taken January 2020 at the North Haledon New Jersey train club layout.

Another photo I took of the multiple engines. Steam and diesel.

Not my equipment nor layout. I was at the South Hicksville New York train club in December 2019.
