Here are two custom Lima locos purchased in 1985. Both are in operating condition and were custom painted. The SCl is a alco 420 and i do not know what the Family lines model is. They pull ok. They were not made for long freights. The motors are in excellent condition> they both have a maximum pull of about 10 cars. The SCl has a truck motor and the Family lines a can motor and flywheel. The scl has traction tires and the family lines does not.

| The Family Lines (Georgia RR) is an Alco, most likely a Century 42_.... but that dynamic brake / air intake section behind the cab just looks... wrong...

I second GIC's motion...
Probably an AHM derived 424.

Well that dynamic brake looked right to somebody, somewhere, at sometime!
Think, if I remember the story right, it might be an issue of Railroad Model Craftsman in the '60s that presented the diagram for Alco Century 424 and mistakenly included the EMD-style dynamic brake fan on the roof. Putting it together, Roco in Austria may have used that as their guide and thus we have the classic AHM Century 424 with special extra dynamic brake fan feature!

Brian, I am interested in both of these. The 424 is like 2 I have from AHM, BN and 1776, not SCL. The 420 Alco is very O gauge-ish with its pilots attached to the trucks. That's one reason I will pick one up the next time, plus, I like the Alcos. [:D] Nice find. When they won't pull more than 10 cars it gives me a good excuse to double head the train![:D]
