Hello All- I just picked up this little set on Ebay. Does anyone have a guess as to what kind of motor/drive train this Life-Like loco has? I don't know the year of manufacture--

My guess would be, about 14 volts electric motor. Can't say as I have many Life-Like engines myself.

Kinda figured that! ....Didn't know if Lifelike stuck with the old toy motors (e.g., pancake), or I might get lucky with something newer. Not a big deal, I mostly wanted the cars, and got the whole set for twenty-something. When I was starting out in the 70's, Life-Like was a bad word, so I didn't own any.

The older Life-Like engines that I'm familiar with had either a truck mounted pancake motor, truck-mounted open frame motor, or a gear tower on one end with an open frame motor on the other.

Here are a couple of pics. I couldn't find my LL with the truck-mounted open frame motor, but I'll post it here if I manage to find it.

Thanks, Thomas, for the pics. I'll let you know what I find when it arrives. Don't know if they upgraded anything before they got serious with the 'Proto' lines.

That grey socket on the gear drive I find frequently has cracked resulting in a unit which runs, but will not move as the socket/cup piece just slips on the shaft.
