Hello Tycoforums.com,
My name is Nathan and I am just introducing myself today. My wife and I have been together for several years now, but only married since this past summer, and she is responsible for my interest in trains. She grew up playing with her father's old Marx train, and a really nice Lionel steamer. We pulled them out of the attic last December when we were at her Dad's house in Virginia and spent the better part of a day cleaning all the wheels and tracks (they were pitch black with grime, probably hadn't been run in 12-15 years) and got the set working again. I went out to the train shop up there and I bought a new freight car (Pabst Blue Ribbon Reefer) to add to the set. It was a great experience that I hope to continue building on in the future. I am currently looking for the old Tyco Petticoat Junction train set, I just finished a post on one of the old boards about it. Also, I am looking at the Polar Express from Lionel, any suggestions on that train set?
Thanks,
Nathan

Welcome! That's a cool story - fascinating learning all the different ways people get into this hobby. As for the trains you're looking for, there's always eBay as well - seems like sooner or later anything you're looking for turns up there. Good luck!

Welcome, Nathan, glad you joined up with your wife, and also joined the model railroading community as well, she sounds like a great partner! Far as the Polar Express in Lionel, and the Tyco Petticoat Junction sets, expect to pay rather good money for either, the PJ HO set seems to go for $100-150 on Ebay, they're not common, and collectors want them. Not sure on the Polar set, I got a set at a local auction over a year ago, paid $45 for it. Pretty cheap, they usually sell for 200-300 used I think. Post some pictures of your wife's train(s) sometime, we love pictures on here.
