that doggone pine hill GP-20 really has me in a knot! so much I want to do my own "tyco train set"

the concept will be:

what if Tyco stayed in the business and upgraded their tooling a bit and produced a "new" set

here's the prerequisite (and where I need help)

I'm going along the way of a GP-20 for the SCF as I have some shells, PT drive will be updated to Athearn standards, I need a paint scheme in line with Tyco, any help?

I figure the SCF will have one action accessory (motorized piggyback terminal) and 5 cars, I cant remember if there was a standard or not on cars

did Tyco have another style caboose at the end or did they just stick with the Wabash style?

and....I'll YouTube a "commercial" for said set

thanks, feedback is appreciated

just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

You could get ideas from the Cox website since they did a few lumber related sets

Is Southern Central Freight a real railroad or is this just a name for the set? I did some googling and found nothing so I would guess you're starting from scratch.

If you're going with the piggyback terminal it might be neat to have several piggyback cars. The number of cars Tyco included varied from set to set.

Tyco had their streamlined cupola caboose, as well as a wide vision caboose and the searchlight car (if you count that as a caboose).

As for the paint scheme, the last few "new" engines issued by Tyco had fairly clean, bold colours and graphics. Take a look at the Western Pacific GP20 and the Northern Pacific Shark and you'll see what I mean.

This is a pretty cool idea and I'm looking forward to seeing it's progress!

it is from a song

the idea comes from the song inspired train sets (clementine, chatanooga choo choo, etc)

ooooo I likes it!
Or you could take either a Chattanooga or a Rock Island loco
Paint out the name & put Southern Central on it

ok y'all, figured an update was in order.

all the locomotive parts are aquired, it's taking me longer than expected since I have four other projects on the table screaming "finish meeeee"

now onto the freight cars:

I figured so far a boxcar and a covered hopper

covered hopper will be the Tyco Boraxo hopper

with the boxcar, I was thinking a new roadname (or I could just deal with the el capitan 50 footer I have) any suggestions on a "new" roadname for a boxcar??

next issue: should I have more cars? if so suggestions please!!

final issue: As this is to be a fantasy/what if Tyco train set any suggestins on an action accessory, either in the tyco system or, heck a whole new idea!

I think you need something new for the boxcar, the El Capitan just doesn't fit this fresh scheme, to me anyway.

Thinking more along the lines of that yellow Burlington Northern mech. reefer, or one of the newer mechanical reefers with a 70s-80s scheme.

Great project!
