Don't see why not on electrical, the motor should hold up ok. Not sure about plastic parts, though.

Justin,
I have a ultrasonic cleaner, what kind of "cleaner" is used? Alcohol based cleaner is great on EVERYTHING in model railroading.....Its not a harsh cleaner to the standards of the type cleaners used in Ultrasonic cleaners.....

And, if its questionable, take something JUNK and test that item or part like the part to be cleaned to see what happens with just a wipe from a cloth with that type cleaner on it.....BE sure that the part is in fact junk, just to be safe, and if not a "working" part, that its made of the same type materials.....NOT all plastics are the same! Be sure of this on any other materials as well.

WHOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!This just so happens to be my 2000th posting!

Just don't put anything painted in an alcohol solution.

Happy 2000th, John.

Is that because it will strip it and eat the plastic?

To piggy-back on the strip possibilities, would painted parts actually be stripped, whence saving some brushing efforts?

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

Alcohol won't harm plastic, but it does make a pretty decent paint stripper. Even on tougher paint jobs it can at least mess up the finish.

A lot of the times it (alcohol) makes a mess of painted surfaces is due to the "clear" coat in the paint to make it gloss, OR the flat coat applied to the paint when the painting is done as a sealer!

Sadly, alcohol can have ALOT of adverse effects on paint, if done right! IF you want "ice" on a snow plow, or rotary snow blower, I can teach ya how to make that come to life!

BUT yes, if left in the cleaner long enough it will begin to get under the paint and remove it from the plastic, or metal its sprayed on.....

A good thought to keep in mind you guys..... the alcohol your using, what type of bottle does it come in? I myself find that to be plastic, every time I buy it.....I have yet, these days to see it sold in a glass bottle......Many, many moons ago, it once WAS sold in glass bottles, not any more......My wife, actually collects old glass bottles, and I think she has 2 that are old alcohol bottles, from a drug store I believe was a Rexon Drug Store.....

Nelson,
Thanks for the Happy 2K......... I got a few to catch up to you! Many more to come tho! but, you knew that!

John, you'll blow past me in a few months.

As for isopropyl alcohol in glass bottles... were they left over from the 1950's?

Nelson,
I'm not sure what the age of the alcohol bottles are. possibly the 50's.....

I do know before my Gram passed away a few years ago on my Dad's side, she had some Alcohol, STILL IN glass bottles from that time frame in her basement!!!! ONE of them, NEVER opened! My wife heard this story a while back and was like that's too bad, I'da loved to have that for a heirloom......Sadly most of that type stuff, got tossed out, (Which in a way I hate to say or even think of) But, I remembered stuff like that and it at the time never gave a second thought too, Now all of a sudden is completely different.....
