I've re-planned my 4-10-0 plan. I wanna now use a 2-6-2 frame and side rods and a 0-4-0 frame and use all 10 drivers. Instead of stretching a boiler, I now scratchbuild a new boiler from brass! I'll use the Mantua as a guide and make a mold for a new lead weight. I wonder if the steam chest from the 2-8-2 will work with my 2-6-2's valve gear? Finnally, what has to be done to make my 4 wheel lead truck clear? I thought of using the 2-6-2 chest, just doesn't seem "hefty" enough. Like I said, I lack a lathe and mill. I have basic power and hand tools. I may use the smaller chest to make it less complicated and basically use the 2-6-2 front frame as the foward base and the rear from the 0-4-0 and go from there. Thoughts or ideas?

Are you planning on rolling brass sheet for your boiler or turning it from a solid blank?
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Brass sheet and a wood dowel or something solid to wrap around. Gonna make a resistance solder rig first. (another future project).

Justin, it can be done! Question is, to make the boiler, what "era" of steam, do you plan to model? As this will tell whether its going to be a difficult thing to scratchbuild (The boiler) or easy!
As a "tapered" boiler is going to be a lot more difficult, then you might think, specially to wrap the brass sheet right to get the taper for each section, SPECIALLY if that taper, is in the middle of the boiler!
Then if not you have to do the "bulge" around and near the firebox as well, which is a taper as well, BUT only on the top most portion of the boiler......
A large 10 couple loco would be awesome, with a large diameter, "straight" boiler, kind of like the Mantua "Heavy" boiler for the 2-8-2's.....

You got pictures of the 4-10-0 frame? OR that you plan to use? I have an idea on how you might be able to accomplish this alittle easier with ALOT less work!
