These models all need work, but I had "ants in my pants" to see what this double-header would look like and pull like. Presently, my interest has been mountain steam railroading and early on it took a couple of locomotives to pull even a small train up some mountain passes (there are photos of like 5 locomotives or more behind a rotary snow plow on Hagerman Pass in Colorado). So . . . these Tyco-Mantua Rogers 4-6-0's did pull the 6 car Mantua brass train . . . albeit not without occasional spinning wheels. Then the transformer overheated. Guess I'll see what I can do about weight and friction as I go over each car.

| My apologies microbusss. Should have asked someone how to do it first. Just for reference, tell me how to do it the way it should have been done. Thanks. Barry

Nice looking set! I've seen a few other pictures posted here of the old time steamers. It's definitely a neat theme for a layout...I figure it's only a matter of time until I find an old time Tyco and end up building a whole layout around it
I see you're in the construction phase of a layout (not that there's any other phase ). I'm sure we'd all love to see some pics once that progresses.

| That's been in the construction phase for a while. I got a bit discouraged when I tried to put down ballast and it just became a big mess. I think I wasn't patient enough. Also (I'm not sure what other folks think), I found it very difficult to get the ballast to stay on the sides of the Walthers foam road bed. I will post some photos if I get to a place that I think they're worth showing.

Ballast is a real pain. You just need to find what works for you. I used that foam trackbed as well. The trick is to mist the ballast with water and then spray on some glue/water mix. Usually the glue mix needs to be applied several times. Patience is key
