I finished up my partial rewiring of this model and now it lights the cab and the front vertical lamps forward, and the rear vertical lamps in reverse. The electrical (positive) is hard-wired, as per the Athearn 5- wire system, but I am holding out the completion of that wiring until I decide to DCC it with a circuit board. I painted the railings and added door grabs at all 5 doorways into the interior, using .25 steel wire. The paint on those replicates the real scheme, but I have not added the small white safety rectangles seen along the bottom of the hood sides. There are some Details West parts i need to get in- the side air tanks, the snow plow and the coupler surrounds. I read about the problem with steel screws shorting the circuit when used in coupler mounts, so I substituted Kadee nylon screws in the drilled and tapped coupler holes I made. I also used Kadee 5 couplers, instead of the impossible-to-put-together number 38 ones, and it looks fine to me.

| IIRC the one that became a cabin was originally a Santa Fe unit, because none of the original GN ones exist, or if they do they're in museums.
