Here's all three major varieties of the Varney plastic shell Bay-Window caboose:

1958 issued C5. yellow painted caboose with radio gear; 1959-61 issued C106, factory painted orange Milwaukee Road and the more common C4 or C105 undecorated in brown plastic offered from 1950-1961.
But wait.

I've never been able to determine the story behind this car. It's factory painted brown over black plastic and appears factory lettered Kansas City Southern. As close as I can tell, Varney didn't offer this caboose after 1961 and didn't offer anything, ever, factory decorated KCS - where the GE boxcar uses an existing screen for data, there is nothing this could have come from and nothing it might have been re-used on. But it's even the wrong color plastic, pretty sure the others were all molded in that brown color, I have several others and the ones people have repainted all have been brown underneath.
It came to me as a whipped $2 junk box find with no trucks, and I need to part out another one to restore it as one of the screw holes in this frame is stripped.
I've even run it on eBay a couple times but no idea if it's a special run, a test shot, or just what.

lvrr325, I'll tell ya, that Varney Bay Window caboose makes a WONDERFULL B&O I-7 class......
Sadly, I have not run up on one for sale or trade yet! I am actively looking tho.....As, I would LOVE a few, just to make B&O cabs in slightly different paint, for each one that they had, PLUS consecutively numbered as well!
EDIT: Forgot to mention, sure that shell wasn't by Model Power? As I have not had the Varney side-by-side of a Model Power Bay Window, BUT, they highly resemble each other!
AND if I remember correctly, The Model Power model (I had one!) it was black plastic! Just a hunch, but.....Something to consider?

The Model Power is the old Marx caboose. Those and the Varney are very similar in appearance. frank

Somewhere I have one with a so-so red B&O paintjob, plus one that's painted black with silver ends.
It would appear that Marx copied Varney and either Flyer copied Marx, or Marx copied Flyer who copied Varney, for the bayola caboose, with Flyer adding the cupola in an attempt to make theirs at least a little different.
I should add, the subvarieties are quite rare - I've never seen another of either the yellow one with the radio gear or the Milwaukee Road versions. The brown one isn't too hard to come by.

Yeah Ben! I have to say your right! I likes dat bay winder you got there! It is nicely detailed, and really, would look AWESOME in B&O "Caboose Red" paint!
But, I also know and understand why you could like it as well! Its almost to nicely done to change the paint on it!

I turned up a second factory painted KCS bay window caboose.
To add to the mystery, it came in what is likely the original box - simply marked C-4 Bay Window Caboose.
This makes me wonder if it escaped the Greenberg guide simply because it was offered under an existing catalog number.
It's also strange that both have turned up not anywhere near KCS country, nor near where Varney made trains, but in western New York state within about 40 miles of one another.
