...Which is GREAT news to hear. She does however paint all my "little" people and does a GREAT job, if you have seen my Rico station that I bricked....
So, when she talked to me on this as she wanted to assemble, buildings! I was surprised but she does like that type of miniaturization so.....And she has a fine hand for painting so.....
I found a Bachmann Plasticville, Chapel, that's a "cut-Stone" model. She picked it and then said about what she wanted to do to it. And when she got to it, all she needed advice on colors and types of color.....WELL, turns out, she done REALLY well! She sat, since the day after I got home from my surgery, and painted each and every stone on the walls, using 3 colors of gray, and one "light brown" to through off the consistent gray shades......
I then had her do trim type work to it, and allowed her to pick the colors for this! NOT to shabby I must say! The only part, I'll be doing to this whole building in the painting process is adding the "mortor" to the cut stone. As I'm thinking of using a darker shade of gray or close to blackish shade to signify a dyed motor to stand out, along with painting the front door. As I plan to spray it red as she wants it to be as its factory red anyway!
So, heres her work so far:

Close up:

So as I got to looking at this, I seem to think, somethings missing! AND it is! Not in the kit, its complete, BUT the Church is missing a parsonage! I found with some boxes I have a complete Plasticville House thats got a few things I want to find out about, BUT I plan to take some cut stone sheet from plastruct, and make it match the church....And allow the wife to paint it as she did the church!

Then, set the 2 together the parsonage off one corner ofthe church, and add in a breezeway! I think it will all look GREAT when its done!
What ya all think? I hope I'm teaching her well!

Nice to see the other half get involved in your hobby. My wife does acrylic bead crafts, and I do trains, and neither of us is really interested in the other's hobby at all. I'm just happy she can entertain herself enough to quit complaining about MY hobby! sometimes... Looks like she has a good eye for detailing, too.

Jerry yeah she does have a good eye for detail....She noticed a few things shes going to be honing in on, with the church. As the windows have the stick on "stained glass windows" and the windows on the outside isn't able to be painted without getting paint on the "glass" so she is going to use a small brush dipped into paint thinner to wipe off any over strokes of paint.....Which is a pretty good idea!
Once I do the stone mortor, I plan to brush on dullcote, to keep it off the glass as well!
As far as the hobby goes, my wife only gets into the little people and buildings, she actually hates the trains themselves....(well I shouldn't say "hate" as its such a strong word), but, with what I do and what I have, she gets sick of seeing and hearing of the loco's and freight cars....

Thanks guys! Its GREAT encouragement for her as she has a few ideas on some other buildings too!
Go figure! Now she'll be building other buildings that I was unsure about to go on the layout! LOL that's just my luck, oh well, live and learn! At this point, I'll take all the help, I can get!

You can print little real estate signs or billboards that say "Another [wife's name] House[Home]/Neighbourhood/Business" and deeds with build/paint dates...
By the way, does she charge by the hour or the brush stroke? Show us more of her paint work... maybe some of us might want to hire her/your subcontractor... business cards. It can happen!
just an idea!

or... "when ya gonna post your, er, Her "Building Of The Week" ?

John, Well, I began teaching her to paint, she wanted to try the little people and she does really well on those, so, I have her painting ALL of the little people whether mine, or some one else in the shop....She does about 15-18 people painted for $25.00....Not a lot of work in that one but every now and again....
She painted ALL the people seen on my "Seriously Kitbashed station, that's pictured there.....I did the building and its painting!
Well that's when she had told me to teach her to do it and I left her pick out a building she wanted to build or was interested in building. WELL it had changed since then as she and I were going to work on the Life-Like Hotel.....Which went out the window pretty quick once I got to look at it and thinking of a interior, that's when I choose to make it into a school....
So, she went back to choose again, and picked out this little church....I got a lot of details to either make, or find, I want a sign board to put up (I want to add one that's small cut stone to match the church) and then some hedges out in the front with a long walkway up to the front steps....A little scenery to go with it!
Ben, Nope! I'm going to turn a brass bell to go in the place of the plastic one! I will then polish it, and clear coat it with shiny clear fingernail polish! NOTHING looks better then polished brass........Sure can't match it in painting something that's other then!

John, I have been making sure she (my wife) gets to see what the outcome of my posting her work as she says she wouldn't have the hand if I hadn't got her to the point where she felt comfortable to do it.....
See, I can paint people, sure enough, sadly, what I can't do, is match the colors of the people of the time frame, I model 1940'sand 1950's.... My wife on the other hand, does this perfectly, matching the colors to the time era!
So, all I needed to do really was fine tune her hand to control how she applied paint, was easy tho!
Then, I came down to need surgery, as you know. So, while at the hospital, and the nurses talking to me to see "what" I had planned to do once I was home to keep my sanity, I spoke about it, and then once I was home, my wife seen what I had done to the station I bricked, and began painting people for it while I was doing the finishing touches on the station. That's when she asked if I could get her to doing something on a building....
Then we picked out a building as I said it was the Belvedere Hotel, till I seen that I was going o do a simple interior and then seen that for a "Hotel" it is a bit narrow for that so......That's when it was set aside, to be a section of the school I was in the plans of designing and had a second "Hotel" of the same to do so with!
The first building, 3 story, has the mortor done by my wife, the same way I would have done it as the second section of the school 2 stories....NOW, this building has changed again, the 3 stories went to 4, and the 2 stories went to 3!
So it has unwind into a whole array of projects since the beginning of teaching her, which has proven to be a lot of fun!

Royal blue, Its GREAT to have a wife who thinks like that! I've actually got mine, currently that she not only buys the train stuff she sees, if shes out will call home to me on it if I'm not with her! BUT, she has gotten to the point where she looks for her own hobbies now and looks at things just a bit differently. Kinda like, she made this thing you hang on the wall, has 3 hooks, not a coat hanger and to big to be a key rack, but something in between. OK this one she made for her mom, for her "winter home" in Florida, to remind her of her New Hampshire homestead. They My wife and her mom, found a second one, just like it, NOW since my wife done the first one, shes doing the second one too, that will be in her moms home stead here in New Hampshire, to remind her of her winter home in Florida.
Now, you ask, why or hows does this come into here? WELL the wall hanging shes working on now for her house in NH, will look, or represent FL. OK? Follow me? WELL, then you have the "Palm Trees" on this, at Michael's Craft Store, they have Woodland Scenic's Palm Trees, for $9.99, my wife thinks thats a bit much to pay (It wouldn't bother me as much but....) Anyway, her idea is to buy he "kit" that has them in it for a diorama, and use what she needs, and the remaining scenic materials will go to me for my layout, or my one display case to finish it.............I'm NOT gonna argue with that track of thought!
